  • Trish i apologize for not getting back to you on this. some corals do sting pretty bad and if one coral stings another coral that is a little more sensitive than others then the whole colony will bleach out. i've had that issue before with my yellow polyps flying all over the place and stinging any sps it touches. i've lost a whole lot of sps from that. although i can't really say that for all the sps. some sps are tough like my superman monti where it fell from the rock and landed on my favia. i thought it was a gonner but when i checked the frag it actually stung part of the favia and a little bit of the superman got stung also. both recovered pretty quick and they're both doing good right now. i've trimmed a lot of my yellow polyps and now have a lot of sps in my tank.
i'm thinking that you might have a broken bulb/cracked that it's emmitting too much UV or your sps might be getting hit with some soft corals in your tank that's been flying around your tank that you're just not seeing. What do you have in your tank besides the sps? i get that sometimes and it's because of a cracked MH bulb, yellow polyps flying all over the place or frog spawn tentacles or anemone tentacles that gets damages from something like a rock it gets riped off or powerhead. i hope this helps. ps your water parameter is excellent and don't worry about the drastic temp change like the other guy said. you'd be amazed how the corals can tolerate water temp change. i had that problem once before...my tank got to 85 because of pump failure heated up my sump from 77 to 85. i woke up in the middle of the night from the temp alarm and replaced the pump.
