I've had a Betta in my 54G tank for 2 years with 2 cleaner shrimp and a recently added peppermint shrimp. My other fish are all reasonably passive and the Betta is always "out and about", it doesn't hide. It eats well and is as voracious at feeding time as the other fish.

Thanks for your replies. I have 2 cleaner shrimp, large ones. I've read that the Betta will eat small crustaceans [sp.], were your shrmp small? My cleaners are so interesting and beneficial, wouldn't want to give them up.
