Anyone have any experience with a marine betta?

Info on the web is confusing, some sites say it won't do well in my tank, other say it should be fine.

I have a 54 gallon reef tank with a yellow tang, snowflake eel, 2 tomato clowns, coral beauty and a pseudochromis. I also have 2 cleaner shrimp which I understand a betta might munch on, but my shrimp are large.

Thanks!

Hey Tina

My betta ate 3 cleaners and a fire shrimp. I was gone for 2 weeks and my wife did not feed him enough. Besides that he is a very easy animal to keep. Mine is very shy,he rarely comes out unless noone is in front of tank, or food time. He eats flakes and anything else I throw in there. His only buddy is a flame angel and my corals. He has been in captivity for 4 years over 2 with me. All and all I will never get rid of him he is very beautiful when he comes out and very nonagressive towards others.

I have had a Marine Betta for about a year and it is one of my three favorite fish. It is a very peaceful (I don't have any shrimps! LOL) fish but rather shy. It will spend most of its time hiding.

Make sure your rocks have plenty of hiding spaces with caves he/she can explore and swim through.

Hi Tina: My marine betta is about 5 years old. Cleaner shrimp were safe for about the first 3 years...Now they are just a meal! A beautiful fish that loves to hide in crevices. It comes out at feeding time and night to cruise around.

Thanks for your replies.

I have 2 cleaner shrimp, large ones. I've read that the Betta will eat small crustaceans [sp.], were your shrmp small?

My cleaners are so interesting and beneficial, wouldn't want to give them up.

I also have a shy betta, I've had him over two years. He comes out more now that he is comfortable in the reef. I never see him eat, but he continues to thrive. I also assume he ate two fire shrimp but has not touched my peppermints. One other note, I had bought two bettas for my 155 gal tank. They both died. Bought another he died. Bought a fourth that finally lived. All of these bettas were babies that were tank raised. I also love their color and would not think about giving him up.

I think one issue that has been missed is that you have a 54 gallon tank. The Marine Betta isn't gonna be setting any land speed records like a Sohol Tang, BUT he's gonna outgrow that corner tank pretty fast.
