  1. Siphon Break Idea on Main Return

Oh, I see how that can suck. Just out of curiosity, why didn't you use an overflow? Doesn't the top later of water get nasty? Roy
  2. Anyone here have a Damsel Tank?

I had a yellow tailed damsel and he also though he was a clown fish. He was always hanging with my false percs. He was pretty mild mannered too. I have read that the yellow tailed are one of the less agressive damsels. You might kick yourself when you have more money though. If you put the...
  3. Siphon Break Idea on Main Return

To save some time doing the plumbing over, just drill a hole about 1/4 of an inch below the surface of the water. This will suck in the air. Just make sure it doesn't get blocked with coraline. Roy
  4. MH bulb and ballast

I am going to add MH lighting to my system. I currently run 440w of VHO. I will probably drop to 220w and use 2 250 watts of MH. My question is what should I get? The effect I want is decent growth of the corals, but striking colors. I guess I am leaning more towards the striking colors than...
  5. Gurgle, Gurgle. My lifereef is loud!!!

I got it pretty quiet today. What I did was put a 1" PVC coupler on the original Lifereef intake. I then put 3 pieces of ice maker tubing into the intake for air. I then adjusted the ball valve I put on the unit. I only had to turn down the ball valve a hair. It is totally quiet now. I...
  6. Gurgle, Gurgle. My lifereef is loud!!!

Megadeath, the problem is the Durso calls for a 1.25" PVC pipe. I can only fit a 1" in. If I adjust is so it is quiet, I get very little flow. I can't seem to get a decent flow, and a quiet flow at the same time. Roy
  7. Gurgle, Gurgle. My lifereef is loud!!!

Megadeath, tell that to my Durso. It seems to get a bit loud. Roy
  8. Gurgle, Gurgle. My lifereef is loud!!!

I tried the stand pipe. The problem is that the biggest pipe I could fit in the Lifereef was the 1". The Durso page says for a 1" bulkhead you need to use a 1 1/4" pipe. The Durso page says it won't work correctly with the 1" and he is correct. I can't seem to get a quiet flow with the 1"...
  9. Dripping Kalk

I have had them leak before. I keep them over the sump just in case. I can't seem to find any thing else to replace them with. So until I do, it is the old blue water jug on the job. Roy
  10. Gurgle, Gurgle. My lifereef is loud!!!

I gotta say, it performs great. That noise just drives me nuts. I think I am going to try the Stockman design. I didn't like the part about algae clogging the holes though. I think I am going to cut slits in it instead. If it don't work than I will use the holes. Any other ideas out...
  11. Problems with an IceCap 660

It may be because of heat. I had a problem with mine once. I live in NJ so I drove out to Ice Cap. They fixed it for me in about an hour. I haven't had a problem since. If you call them, I am sure they can tell you what you can do. Maybe they will have you ship it to them for repair. Good...
  12. Gurgle, Gurgle. My lifereef is loud!!!

Anyone out there know how to quiet a lifereef overflow down? I just got the single overflow and it is loud. I am using a mag 9.5 for return. The gurgle sound is way too loud. I can hear it from 2 rooms away. The worst part is that is in the tv room. I just tried to watch a movie and had...
  13. hiding PH's in overflows?...

If a stand pipe is used that will not happen. The stand pipe would be higher than the powerhead. Roy
  14. Dripping Kalk

I use old water jugs for my water cooler and an IV dripper I got from a medical supply store. Works good. Roy
  15. hiding PH's in overflows?...

I would think that you would get more bubbles than if they were in the tank from the air bubbles coming into the overflow. I guess if you had a stand pipe which was set up high in the overflow, this wouldn't be a problem. Roy
