this seems like a great idea..."playfair" over at RC is doing it...this from his site...

"(2) Maxijet 1200 power heads hidden in the overflows and plumbed towards the front corners of the tank."

seems like a great way to hide ugly powerheads...

but it may increase the amount of water thats going over your overflows...??

wouldnt it just be like having PHs in the tank?...

i have a mag1800 for return pump (4' head) that already pushes my overflows pretty hard...

thanks

I would think that you would get more bubbles than if they were in the tank from the air bubbles coming into the overflow. I guess if you had a stand pipe which was set up high in the overflow, this wouldn't be a problem.

How do you solve the problem of the powerhead back siphoning into the overflow then the power goes off?

If a stand pipe is used that will not happen. The stand pipe would be higher than the powerhead.

my standpipe is pretty high in my overflow, and it has a durso "L" on it...i dont think that many bubbles make it to the bottom of the overflow...

la lawman

he uses the flex tube up to "loc-line" at the top of the tank, that he can direct where he wants...

he also mentioned that he has the PHs on a timer so that they alternate on/off...because when they were both on all the time they raised the water level too high on the overflow teeth...

It is, and it is easier than a closed loop. Although a closed loop is pretty darn easy...

but it may increase the amount of water thats going over your overflows...??

It *will* increase the amount of water thats going over the overflow. This is why I went with closed loops instead. Of course, you could modify the teeth on the overflow.

Yes, except they would be in the overflows.

i have a mag1800 for return pump (4' head) that already pushes my overflows pretty hard...

The you need to either modify teeth of your overflow, or go with closed loops.
