Is there any reason that I cannot run my kalk reactor using salt water water from the sump pumped through the reactor? This would make it much easier and not run the risk of having the reactor run dry when my 5 gal. R/ O resovior is empty.
Its on the input side. I feed the reactor with a small pump from the sump. the reactor level is above the sump level so when the pump is off (its timed reverse photo period) the water siphons out of the reactor.
I need a good anti-siphon valve for the 1/4" tubing on my kalk reactor. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find one that will work without constantly clogging?
I am considering adding a third 400 watt 20,000k metal halide to my 235gal. reef. I currently have two metal halides operating with the old fashioned magnetic ballasts. My question is what is the advantage of the newer electronic ballasts? Do they run cooler, provide differant spectrum or use...
I finished setting up my Neilson Reactor (Kalwasser) and have it dripping 24 hours a day instead of a on a timer opposite of the lighting cycle. If it only drips slowly will this be a problem?
I also have two types of xenia in my tank. It grows like wild and I have to prune it back periodically. I dose iodine once a week and it seems to like it. I had a similar problem with die off about six months ago and it was related to the age of my metal halides. Once I replaced the bulbs the...
While my homemade 2 stage calcium reactor bit the dust. I've been looking into replacing it. Any one have any experince with the Koralith 1502 or 3002? I have a fairly large tank (250 gal.) with a large calcium demand.
If not the Koralith, any other suggestions?
This weekend I installed a Neilson Reactor I got from Ecotech. It seems to work well but when the feed pump is off (during the day) Kalkwasser is siphoned back into the fresh water reservior. Does anyone know how to stop this problem?
After reading the Neilson REactor thread I decided to order one to help maintain calcium/alkilinity as I like the effect Kalk has on my tank. After exchanging an email with ecotech I asked how to ored one of their units. Three emails and two weeks later I have not heard back from them. Does...
I have a Euroreef skimmer on my 230. I have owned about 5 other skimmers over the years and this is by far the best skimmer I have seen or used. The only problem I have is that it is so much more efficient than my prior skimmer that it is starving my refugium. If you choose the euroreef you will...
I am in the process of swithching to a deep dand bed from my crushed coral/plenum. I have heard conflicting recomendations regarding the viability of a deep sand bed as a nitrogen reduction/waste processing system. I have read Dr. Ron's articles but have also heard that a bed made of oolitic...
