Look at the slime as being your best friend, it is robbing your show tank of po4. Differences in lighting spectrum and flow rates are why it doesn't take hold in your show tank. Might sound radical but I consider red slime , hair algae, etc etc an asset as long as it stays in the fuge or sump. 8)

RIKACARL Calcium, Alkalinity, and magnesium all go hand in hand, you need all three at the correct levels. It is very difficult to adjust any one properly with out the others being at there respective correct levels.Mag levels should always be tested along side alk and calc.

Use the Pin Point myself no probs with the adapter. You can buy better probes that fit the unit which are shielded to combat stray leccy, and might be a little more reliable/accurate, never really liked the PP probe, My next probe will be one made by I K S which has the same BNC fitting, as used...

Hello Pardsie I am curious to know how dosing kalk can reduce phosphates,I am assuming you mean po4 out of your tank,and not out of the water you are feeding the doser,an explanation of the processes involved would be very helpful thanks Darryl.

You need to get your alk and calcium levels back in balance, you also need to check your magnesium levels,once balanced with the correct mag levels,things should start to improve.

Vitz totally agree, but cyano doesn't always survive in the man tank because of diffrent lighting increased water flow etc etc.I do agree with tackling the source though,but I also feel cyano in the sump/fuge helps speed up the burning off the excess nutrients,I see the cyano in the fuge as...

If the cyno is only in the fuge and doesn't spread to the show tank, IMO I believe it is actually working for you removing nutrients etc,just a thought !
