  1. Everything Must go!!!!

AZ, Ya I moved this tank 3 miles 3 years ago 3 guys, but yes all day job. You are a good man to do that. Now that most of the rock is out of the tank, and I did know I had a lot in there, I would only do a FOWLR and I would only put in about 100lb in a 120ish tank, maybe a few mushrooms but...
  2. Everything Must go!!!!

AZ, I am moving to Ca and not wanting to move from WI a tank and all. I will still be on the forums until I get something set up out there. What a PITB to try and sell items on a short time frame, worst hobby to be in when you have to move, even just a short distance. Bob
  3. Everything Must go!!!!

I need to dispose of my reef system and all related equipment by Aug 1.I live in the Milwaukee, WI area. 120gallon AGA 4x2x2ft tank Mission style stand and light hood 2 250MH, 2 96w Actinics, blue and red LED’s. Sump/fuge 4’x1’x16” Nautilus skimmer with pump 2 Mag 18 return pump3 2LF reactors...
  4. Alk level way too high!

I do not what salt you use or what your water change schedule is but a AL that high without dosing an Alk suppliment is impossible!!!! Kalk has very little Alk in it and if you added that much Kalk to get your Alk that high your PH would be sky high.
  5. a water-change based system?

Here is some good reading on it, calcium would depend on tank needs,(amount of corals) and what salt you would use. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-10/rhf/index.php
  6. kh, pH and test kit questions

Need more info, what salt are you using? What water source? What buffer? Which at this point you do not need!!! Most buffers are not needed, Read these articles, and it may take a few times. One of my GREAT mentors said," you hear you forget, you see, you understand, you do, and now you...
  7. DI resin

Ben, here are 2 formulas for checking your RO membrane eficiency, one is easier then then the other but not as accurate, it will be a start. http://www.buckeyefieldsupply.com/calc.asp http://www.spectrapure.com/CALC-FORMULA.pdf
  8. DI resin

I was looking for a post from Russ at BRS about resin, but it must be kept sealed or else it can pick up ions from the air and loose its effecientcy. I keep mine in a vacumm sealed bag after opening. He also recommended buying no more then what yu would need for 6 months.
  9. DI resin

Hitman, I totally agree, I can not figure out why they use that temp for a standard, I would think 60* would be move of an accurate average.
  10. DI resin

Hitman, Not all but most RO membranes standard of GPD and product to waste ratio is set at 60psi @77*F for supply water, anything lower in any combination will lower GPD and raise the ratio. Of course anything higher or combination will increase GPD and lower the ratio.
  11. DI resin

A new RO membrane usually takes about 10gal through it and not let those gallons go to the DI resin. It is to flush out the strorage solution that it is packed in. That may have exhausred your DI faster, I have about 12 TDS's going into my DI and I get about 250gal before it is exhausted. If a...
  12. supplements/additives

Here is all you need to know about your question, save it for future references!!!!! http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/s ... did=102605
  13. tank temp swing

I did the same thing last week RP was off for 20hrs, so it is with my headers in the sump also, just turned it on and let it go. No harm was done, I have done it before since I turn off the RP when I feed, put that was the longest time this time, usually it was only 12-14hrs.
  14. Reef Construct

I have used a putty type not designed for reefs but for under water, and have never had a problem. I would look at other causes, did you have anything on your hands or arms that could have contaminated the tank.
  15. mixing reef salt

First water temps should match and the salt will dissolve easier in tank temp water, so I would bring the water up to temp before adding the salt, then mix till clear to let the PH come to propper levels, when salt is first added PH is usually a bit higher then you would want to add to the tank.
