  1. Fish Illness Mystery: Can food induce epilepsy?

I had the same experience in a fesh water tank years ago. There were several fish in the tank, but only one particular tiger barb had this reaction. It happened in my tank just as you described in yours. The fish would eat, then start swimming and breathing erratically, then go belly up and...
  2. so, what is the deal with RBTAs?

    $100 around here.... :(
  3. Anyone have experience with either of these two hermits?

I picked up a pom pom crab about 2 weeks ago. Everything I had read and heard about them told me they would be a peaceful reef inhabitant, and watching him for the last 2 weeks tells me the same. Mine came with the 2 anemones, and it only uses them for defense. The anemones are really small...

    Yup....anemone frappe! 8O
  5. Bubble Tip Tips

The plastic screens aren't enough to keep wandering anemone tentacles out. I had an atlantic anemone get blenderized thru a plastic screen on a Maxi-jet 600. Only the arms fit thru, not the body, and it has since grown them back. So keep an eye on any anemones wandering too close.
  6. Coral of the Week: Turbinaria peltata, the Pagoda coral

I've got one that is unfortunately on the brink of death. Bought it about a year ago. It's a nice light purple color, perfectly round, about 3-4 inches in diameter, shaped like a very shallow bowl. Have it in a 29 gal, up high under 2x55 watt PC lighting. During a heat wave last July my tank...
  7. my coral banded shrimp eats bristleworms!

My CB shrimp cleaned out my entire population of bristleworms in my 29 gal tank. Other than that, I love my shrimpie. Never seemed to bother with any other critters, like pods or spaghetti worms.
  8. Im at this point again !!

Cool fish. I've got a 29g as well, and always liked anthias but figured my tank was too small for them. Those look pretty small though. Wonder if they stay that way.
  9. Im at this point again !!

What are those fish in the upper right corner of the pic? They look a little blurry so I can't quite tell. They look pretty though. -Bob
  10. Xenia eggs

I didn't realize xenia did this either, untili saw it happening. Sorry, don't have any pics, but basically it looks like little bunches of xenia colored eggs working their way out from between all the shriveled up polyps. It was cool to see, since I've never seen a coral release eggs in my...
  11. Xenia eggs

Anyone else here ever had xenia release eggs in their aquarium? My original bunch of xenia (from 2 years ago) has spread and become about 10. Yesterday, 2 separate bunches were all shriveled up and began releasing eggs. My fish and cleanup crew showed no interest in eating them (maybe they...

  13. tank is uneven.....I hate this...

I agree with the tape measure trick. If the trim isn't flush, then you're actually going to need to set the tank up so it's not perfectly level, in order to make it "look" level when compared to the trim. Like Flameangel said, just put a little water in and adjust the tank 'til the measurement...
  14. Clownfish Behavior

Marco, I'm experiencing identical behavior in 2 false percs I have. I just bought the larger of the two in February, and the smaller one in March. It's the larger one doing all the chasing and nipping, although the smaller one will occasionally put on it's own little "shaking" display in...
