  1. Polyp growth questions

I have been feeding the polyps (green button) trace elements, including iodine, and baby brine shrimp. Obviously I don't know that much about them, I've just been doing what I've been told. I'm surprised they're growing so quickly. They have already started propagating. Makes me encouraged...
  2. Polyp growth questions

It's me again with another polyp question. By the way, if anybody knows some good polyp info sites, let me know. Anyway, once my polyps opened, they been doing really well (I think). Now they're like three times the length they were originally, and about twice as thick. Is it normal for them...
  3. What eats caulerapa.

I have a large decorator crab (about 2 inches wide) and it eats the heck out of my caulerpa.
  4. fish community problems?

I've done research on mandarin gobys. Haven't gotten one yet. Anyway, you need to have tons of live rock and your tank should be established for at least a year before you get one. They're notoriously difficult to switch to frozen food, so they need enough copepods to live on. Hope this helps.
  5. Basic polyp question

By the way, if anyone wants to check out my website and tell me if the polyps look healthy, I'd appreciate it. And I'd also appreciate any suggestions. Go to the seahorse page. You can also feel free to E-mail me directly from the website. Kelly's page
  6. Basic polyp question

Well, I've had them about three weeks. The piece that fell off is a complete polyp. It's open and eating, seems to be fine except it got bumped off. There was a hitchhiker crab under the polyps and I was moving the rock around about a week ago, so maybe I bumped it loose. The polyps are in a...
  7. Basic polyp question

I've got my first polyps (green button). Last night, one of the polyps had popped off the rock and was lying on the substrate. Is this how they migrate or reproduce? Should I glue this polyp to something or just leave it there? I'd appreciate any info. I've been giving them supplements and...
  8. would this book be a good purchase since i am a beginner

I found The Conscientious Marine Aquarist to be an excellent beginner's book. This coming from someone who is a mid-to-upper level beginner. It is a pleasure to read and gives great explanations on necessary chemistry. It's got an overview of species, but not anything you would use to...
  9. sea horses

Hi Stephanie. First, you've got to check out www.seahorse.org ..it's the best site out there for seahorse info. Post over there, a lot more people with seahorse experience can help you out. What kind of horses do you have? Also, if you could post your water and tank parameters, that would...
  10. ID help

Duh-oh! The things are on either side of the pipefish picture. Kelly
  11. ID help

Not really hitchhikers. The person I ordered from made some substitutions. They're corals, I think. But I'm new to corals and never saw them open. If anyone has a minute to look at the pics on my website (seahorse page) and give me some ideas, I'd appreciate it. Kelly's web site
  12. I caught that red $#%)# eyed devil crab

I've had a red eyed crab (hitchhiker) in one of my nanos for about six months. I don't think they're that destructive. She's very shy, and although I just put the first fish in there with her, she seems to be mostly vegetarian. Eats lots of caulerpa, and I feed her frozen cocktail shrimp and...
  13. Help! Filefish questions

I ordered a seahorse package, and one of the additional items that was sent was a filefish. Which is fine, except I wasn't expecting it. Can anyone clue me in to a good website or give me some info on these guys? He's not in with the seahorses. I didn't know what he was at first, but he was...
  14. Pic of Sun Polyp I rescued from LFS

Looks great! What did you do to nurse it back to health?
  15. Reef Books

I'm in the middle of The Conscientious Marine Aquarist, and I'm really enjoying it. Not only is it informative, but it's well written and flows nicely, so you don't have to struggle through it. Just my 2 cents.
