1. HELP!!! my tank is crashing

mrgroont, Please post listing of your tank parameters and values as indicated by the tests performed at your LFS. How many and which of these parameters have you tested yourself? How old is your tank?
2. Does anybody knows if wax pelets are reef safe?

quote:
I´ve read about adding pasta, and a common denominator in that approach is the difficulty to remove the pasta. Will the curing process should last 6 weeks...

What about cooking the pasta first...
3. Does anybody knows if wax pelets are reef safe?

I'd go for a refined paraffin wax as it should be pretty much chemically inert. I don't think I'd use bees wax - it's likely got any number of compounds in it depending on the bees, thier behavior and environment.
4. Dumbest Thing you Have ever Done...

Trusted the guy at my LFS without doing my homework. Camel Shrimp aren't reef safe. I only checked one other reference besides the LFS guy and they seemed OK. Should've kept up the investigation and gotten other info. I feel stupid and guilty about it now. An Open Brain and various...
5. spider light reflector

Anybody have or previously use a lighting setup with Spider light reflectors? Spider Light Description I'm thinking of getting a couple of these reflectors and retrofit my current lighting setup... are they worth the extra bucks? Comments and opinions greatly appreciated! ... just found...
6. canister filtration?

I've got one that I put carbon and/or phosphate sponge in now and then. Otherwise, there's no filtration at all in it and I just use it for a little cross current across the top of the tank. Oh yeah, forgot to mention I've got a 90 gallon reef -the canister filter is a Fluval 404. [ December...
7. Bubbles Growing in my Tank?

Here's what I'd do: 1) Reach in and yoink 'em off the rock. In order to prevent popping, get as much of your finger/thumb combo around them as possible (this presents the most surface area between skin/valonia and distrubutes the tension on the bubble's surface) and then twist and lift. If...
8. Potassium permanganate solution?

I've also heard of it being used to help supress cyano growth. It's very powerful in salt water as compared to it's strength in fresh water (I'm basing this on dosage comparison only, so I could be off base). Albert Thiel once recommended using it to raise the redox potential of the tank water...
9. oxygen question

You could always test the O2 levels in your tank with a test kit. If they're low you could run an oxygen reactor. If you don't mind, I'd like to append my own question to your post and ask if there are any people out there who run skimmerless and use oxygen reactors. Seems reasonable since...
10. Sallylightfoot crabs

I witnessed my Sally go completely psycho on a newly added brittle star. Unless you're OK with minced up stars, I'd get the Sallys out.
11. Got the crap shocked out of me last night, it was worth it.

There's a saying that goes something like, "There's old electricians and bold electricians, but no old, bold electricians." I really need a Ground Fault Interupter too. Thanks for reminding me, and good health to ya!
12. Cracking Glass!!!!!!!!!!

Try and remove whatever stress there may be on the bulkhead fitting... i.e. heavy hose hanging off the bulkhead, etc... Cut a small piece of acrylic or glass and glue it with silicone over the developing crack so as to prevent either side of the crack from separating any further. Make sure to...
13. refractometer or pinpoint salinity monitor

I've got a conductivity probe on my Aquacontroller, thus the probe is always in my sump... I need to have the temp probe in there as ground reference as well. I'm thinking of purchasing a refractometer (actually, the one mentioned above)as a useful "sanity check" to be certain I haven't...
14. can you drink from ro/di units?

15. Aiptasia

MedicineMan, I'll confess to licking batteries. ...sometimes it's just a lot easier to lick a battery to verify if it's tapped than to reach for the Volt meter. I think I'm going to investigate this zapping technique a bit more... sounds interesting. I've got a several Anemonia majano...
