I had the same problem 2 months ago. I was told it was "snot algee" or Dinoflagettes. It looked like cyanobacteria but with a light brown color. It would also accumulate on the waters surface proportionally to the photo period. Another member sugested to do massive water changes, remove any...
My AG 125 reef tank has the factory dual corner over flows. It has provisions for the round sponge pre filters to be installed on the drain stand pipes. I have heard that mechanical filtration is not a good idea for a reef with LR and a DSB.
After cycling my uncured LR 4 mo. ago, I did a 100% water change with natural sea water. Since then I have done 3 20% water changes. My nitrates are 0. The only additives I add are B-Ionic, Stront & moldum and Iodine. At night I see thousands of pods and worms swimming about and in the...
I don't think it's cyno-bact. I had an uncontrolable outbreak of that on my last reef when I used silica sand. This is a light brown algee which accumulates on the surface after easilly breaking free under water
My 125 gal. reef has been up and running for 4 mo. now. All water paremeters are normal and all the inhabitants are doing fine. The only problem I have is this stringy brown, hair like algee. It grows everewhere at a moderate rate. It accmulates on the waters surface, is easilly detached...
I don't add any water conditioners or overfeed, the only things I add are B-Ionic, Iodine and strontium & molidbium. I have a light - medium bioload. The skimmer is on a 4" platform in my 30 gal. sump which I try to keep about 3/4 full. I have heard about venting modifications for the Aqua-C...
My 125 reef has been up and running for 4 mo. now and all water parameters, fish and corals are fine. I recently throughly cleaned my Aqua C 150 and since then it has been filling the 5gal. waste bucket every 2 days. I keep the water level inside the skimmer just below the inner platform as per...
Has any one tried the Ocean Curents oscilator or rotator wavemakers? I am looking to add some wave makers to my sump returns on my 125, but $320 for 2ea. 3/4 Sea Swirls is pushing the budget.
Has any one ever used sand from the beach? I just relocated to S. Miami and key Largo is only 25 min. away. I am presently cycling my 125 and thought this would be a cheap option for a 100% LSB.
Would the sand right off the beach(say in 3' of water) be the same as sand in close proximity...
I can borrow my friends boat and dive off key Biscane for some sand close to a reef. Or,if there is no difference in life, gather it in a few of feet of water right off the beach. Any sugestions.
The only restrictions I know of are on corals, turtles, and under size / out of season fish. I'll check with the Fl. fish and wildlife dept.
Unless I pull up with a back hoe and dump truck; I dont think any ranger would have a problem with 2 5gal. buckets of sand.
