I am trying to get the second channel of a two channel, Aqua Medic Reef Doser to lag the first channel, (both set the same "cycle" and "on" time,) by three minutes for dosing two part. Do I just wait three minutes to hit the "enter" key on the second channel, or what?
I'm running nominal 480GPH of return flow before allowing for loss. I wanted to keep it low, 3 or 4 times an hour system turnover, because I have a refurium in the sump. I chose Vortech over Tunze to keep the motor heat out of the water. They have not yet come out with the new driver but that...
Thanks for the comments. The attention is gratifying and will inspire me to post more pictures. The anemone in the upper right hand corner behind the small powerhead is indeed the background. Regarding the eductors, I've tried it with and without and it's true they probably do not have the four...
Thanks for the warning on the tongue. Yes that is a mimic tang which I paired with a Kole Yellow Eye tang. They are peaceful fish, get along together just fine, and are not supposed to grow too much, although they may outgrow my tank eventually. I got them from Mark at Blue Zoo Aquatics with...
Delbeek and Sprung talk about lanthanum chloride heptahydrate for phosphate control and I got something called Phosphate Control by a company called Blue Life from Marine Depot which I believe is this chemical. Worked very well for me.
I'm trying to keep bioload down, just two fish, albeit tangs. Asking me not to add more just before the frag swap is probably more than I can handle. Most of what you see is live rock, 120 pounds, some of which will move into the sump.
By way of follow up, four out of five of the "first corals" have survived and are growing, fast. The Purple Passion Tree didn't. Subsequently, I got two bigger ones at New World and wrote Live Aquaria a note. They refunded the money on the three that were really small. I made the pilgrimage to...
The carbon bag never gets close to being clogged by detritus. The foam is easily cleaned, much easier than a sock. I've been using the foam for detritus with the carbon just in the water for the past few days and the water is definitely clearer. Now I worry that the foam removes coral food...
In the last compartment of my sump there is a shelf with egg crate right above the return. It holds a piece of porous foam which I clean often, or I can substitute the bag of carbon. I'm trying to determine if the carbon bag should go on this shelf and receive 100% of the water flow, say 3 or 4...
I started with carbon to try to make the water clearer. I think of it as the first step before going to ozonizing. Carbon is necessary for ozonizing anyway, I think. As I understand it carbon takes out stuff the skimmer doesn't.
When you say put it in an area of indirect flow, do you mean just...
In an attempt to make my water clearer I placed a bag of carbon in the sump so that all the water has to go through it before the return. The water got clearer and the skimmer found nothing to skim. In this position, detritus will be picked up as well and I'll have to rinse it daily.
1. Would it...
