I have had success with 2 methods both using syringes. 1. Using concentrated lemon juice and 2. Using muriatic acid obtained from a pool supply store. Both of these work and do not require a lot to be affective. The fluid does need to be injected into the stalk of the aiptasia.

As a last post. I found the turbofloater to be an OK fairly inexpensively priced skimmer. I no longer use this skimmer however because it was way underpowered for my 300 gallon reef. I now use euroreef and love it. The turbofloater ran fairly well with the adjustable air pump to boost it's...
Ernie,
The original question was not what skimmer do you recommend. It was can you help me out with my current skimmer. That was what the originator of this thread asked. That also seems to be what most of the respondents did.

No flames please!
I also have used the turbofloater in the past and it performed well for a relatively inexpensive skimmer. I used a RIO 600 for the second pump. Never found that pulling water from the tank surface to feed the secondary chamber to work. I also have always dosed kalk. The...
What pperez said. The RIOs won't work for long on a wavemaker. The start/stop will make them fail eventually. Rio says "they do not make their pumps to be run on a wavemaker." The maxi-jet has less power but is a much better pump. I have run maxis for 3 years with zero problems. I doubled up on...
You might also refer to anything Randy Holmes Farley has written on the subject. I am not a chemist, but he is and very knowledgable on the subject.
Limewater (kalkwasser) produces a calcium surface that attracts and binds phosphates. It appears that the slow replacement of evaporated water...
I believe that is correct. I use nothing but RO/DI water with kalkwasser added as all my makeup water. It is said that kalwasser helps to reduce phosphates in you tank. Hopefully by using RO/DI water there are no phosphates in the water used for makeup. If there were phosphates in the makeup...
I use a rubbermaid container. It is about 12 gallons. If you use that type comtainer then keep the top covered...this will keep the mixture from crusting on the surface. If you keep the end of the pick up tube about say 2" off the bottom then you shouldn't get any of the kalk which did not...
I dose kalk daily in my 125 reef. Kalkwasser has other benefits such as reducing phosphates. I was unable to maintain anything above 350 calcium and my alk had a tendency to drop over time. I now dose kalk 24/7 and supplement with ESV B-Ionic daily and am able to maintain good levels and all...
I had this happen to me once with a maroon clown and a ritteri anenome. I believe the clown or clowns are testing the anenome before actually taking up residence. At least that is what happened in my case. It stopped after a couple days.
