  1. Let this be a lesson

Id wait and get the halides, i doubt the deterioration in bulb life will be that bad to cause you problems in the mean time. Besides, nothing motivates like a disaster in waiting.
  2. What to do when you corals outgrow your tank?

Go for a complete overhaul, and frag them from the back, placing the remining heads lower down in the tank. Coral's preferable to rock i assume. Looks like youve got a buisy weekend infornt of you either way. Oh, and congrats man, nice effort.
  3. Elkhorn and Staghorn

Galleon, im one pic away from jacking this job in, grabbing my dive gear, and becoming the first reef assasin and joining Greenpeace. Thats such a sad pic, if only to see that big domed coral head dead, porites i think (but then i allways think domes are porites) That coral must have taken...
  4. Elkhorn and Staghorn

In terms of reef building corals, i thought elkhorn and staghorn were usefull in adhereing the other coral masses together, Like if you had a big Porites die the broken bits of stag and elkhorn that fell in arround it would basically help to compact it down , fill in the spaces. Allthough ive...
  5. Elkhorn and Staghorn

Just to top it off, has anyone noticed that now a days when it rains, it smells like a dirty fish tank, remember when rain smelt good, full of live Ions.
  6. Elkhorn and Staghorn

And just for those of you on the verge of crying, we'll never see this again. Those pics in 1971 were probably 100 years in the building, and 10 years to destroy it, so unless we fix things now, and i live to 126, and can still dive, im afraid the show is over.
  7. Elkhorn and Staghorn

Damn Galleon, i thought youd left your brain in your reef tank for a moment. Sad story you have there, and as a dive instructor for the last 8 years i have to agree. The hard coral gardens of the past have vanished, and all you get now is crappy wavy softy gardens, damn this actually makes me so...
  8. Lackluster Reef

Good luck!, im hoping your corals were just a bit light shy and now theyll come back.
  9. some insight

LPS + Softy's are a delecate mix, watch out for nematodes, and get a small leather so if they do have a fight at least the elegant will win, allthough saying that they are probably the most aggressive coral out there, and they get HUGE.
  10. Coral vital anyone?

He he he he, he said Marc Weiss
  11. Over Skimming...

The only detriment to overskimming will be your trace elements depleating slightly faster, youll also have less zoo's and planctons in the water column. But seen as having a bigger skimmer will allow you to feed more, id say its a step in the right direction. You could allways take a dryer skim...
  12. getting close to my new skimmer

  13. I love it when a plan comes together

Either you have the rarest Carpet Anemonie ive ever seen, or it just spewed all its Zooanthol. Keep an eye on it bro!
  14. SEIO powerhead?

Ehiem's Aquaball is good, dont know about this Aquaglobe, looks like someones trying to cash in on a good idea, it looks like a piece of cheap crap anyhow. I second the Maxi Jet, or Mini Jet if your wanting something smaller. But realisticly scpeaking, closed loop is the way forward, and get a...
  15. help!!! galaxy coral protective coat wearing off!!!

I was going to add, the Galaxia'a probably about to kick ass, and is spewing itself onto an opponent. Very aggressive coral
