Ack! There are much cheaper RO/DI units here, though I have not used them yet. It will probably be the next thing I buy though. I have a small R/O unit already but it is slow and does not have the nice auto-shutoff features this one has.

Id wait and get the halides, i doubt the deterioration in bulb life will be that bad to cause you problems in the mean time. Besides, nothing motivates like a disaster in waiting.
