What pump do you use with the Precision Marine Hot-1 hang on skimmer? It seems like this would be the best skimmer under $200 for a 40 - 55 gal reef, what do you think? Do you like it better than the AquaC Remora?
Does anyone else's six line get into a "running" fit sometimes? Mine will flare at the glass (or his reflection) occationally and will also take high speed dashes over the rockwork, sometimes hitting the glass a little hard. Normally he just cruises the rockwork hunting mysid shrimp and pods.
It's sad to think that no one is coming to the rescue. This is a natural/educational exhibit that many people and children enjoy. Sure, it's not going to be a big money maker (most likely) like the Bronco's or Avalanche Stadiums. Most of the staff at Ocean Journey are volunteers as well (80%I...
Yep, that's a great idea. We checked with them today and they said there will be no sales to the public. I hope they find good homes to all the fish, corals, birds and animals.
For those of you living in Colorado, I hear Ocean Journey (our one and only aquarium) is to close in 2 weeks. They have had financial difficulty and are in debt a bit of money. I believe they are hoping for a miracle now as the city of Denver has not helped. There are not a lot of aquarium's...
I recently started using 10mL vinegar per L of top up water with Kalk (2 tsp/gal) and Iodide. My pH dropped from 8.2 to 8.1- in 4 days (Sailifert kit). I used SeaChem 8.3 pH buffer (Na2CO3 mostly) for 4 days per bottle recommendations and pH came up to 8.1+. My Alk was running 8 dKH, now it is...
I am planning to make an automatic top-up system for my reef tank and wanted to get some opinions on the proposed set up below. Are there any serious potential problems with this set up? What benefit would a peristaltic pump have over the small power head?

This worm has completed his structure down from his hole to the bottom of the tank (approx 3 inches) and the structure goes into the substrate bed a bit. It was quite hilarious the other night. He snagged a piece of Formula One food and was in such a hurry going backward back into his hole the...

Ok, so our tank is about 4 weeks old and has completed it's cycling with the live rock. It will be a reef tank with a conservative number of fish for a low biolaod. I am now seeing the beginnings of quite a bit of bubble algea (Valonia sp or similar) around on various rock peices. I'm...
