  1. Good LFS in Raleigh/Durham

Glad to see an active reef community. I am going to be very active. I have lots of good sources for livestock (I just closed my online reef business, Coral Reef Productions), so I can still get stuff cheap (wholesale). I am williing to order for anyone who needs stuff, they will just need to...
  2. Good LFS in Raleigh/Durham

Hi, Just moved here from Miami and cant seem to find any good LFS. Are there any? Any reefkeepers living here? Let me know. I am justing getting my 125g back together and should be stocking it soon. -Daniel
  3. Mag-Float

We have had great success with the Mag Float. Sold quite a few already. I would not recommend using the Mag Float on acrylic tanks. The bristles are too course and would probably end up scratching the tank. I cannot advertise here, but we have great prices on these magnets.
  4. Fedex Online....

As an owner of a MO company and an employee of FedEx, I would like to give the following information. I would not recommend shipping any live goods with either of the two major overnight carriers (FedEx or UPS) tonight or this week. When service resumes tonight or tomorrow night, the system will...
  5. What does everyone think of Sprungs Invert book?

We have had it for about two weeks now. Most customers who have purchased it seem to like it. It is a great, basic ID book. I think Julian has improved on this format from "Corals: A Quick Reference Guide." Very few good Invert books exist, so this is a great addition to any fish library. Also...
  6. this might be a dumb question

I have refugiums running on a few different systems with no spread of macroalgae to the main system. I attribute this to two things. 1. All refugiums are separate sumps that have to flow into the main sump before returning to the tank. 2. Tangs in the main tank that prevent even the smallest...
  7. do any cleaining magnets really go around corners

The mag float will, in fact, it will go around anything. While I admit it may not be the strongest magnet ( go with the 350) it does the job, plus the price cant be beat.
  8. Exciting new tank, help please!

In my previous life as a aquarium maintanance guy, I encountered many a tank like this. Weird dimensions, underfiltered, with almost impossible access. Did I take them, of course. Were they difficult? You bet. Dont try to over do it. If this tank is that strangly shaped, I recommend only one...
  9. Oh my god! Did you SPS keepers know this?

I wonder if these LFS know how to pronouce "cichlid'. "Yup, Ive got bout 20 of them chicklids in my 15 gallon. Running one them bubbly things ya know, with the tube. Tanks reeel nice. Only lose one or two fishies a week."
  10. Sea Swirls or Wave Maker?

It really depends on your setup and what types of corals you are thinking about keeping. On my 125, I have two seaswirls and 4 powerheads on a wavemaker. Gives alot of random movement to the tank. This tank is most for SPS and some softies. If you are only going to keep lagoon type corals, this...
  11. HOW LONG DO CLEANER SHRIMP LIVE?

I have some that are almost three and doing strong. A customer of mine has some that are over 5 years of age. They are the biggest cleaners you have ever seen.
  12. What is greenwater, and how do you make it??

Greenwater is basically water that has certain types of microscopic algaes growing in it that make it look "green." Most green water should be started from a starter that has the correct types of algae and should be monitored to make sure unwanted species do not invade. Check out Aquatic Eco...
  13. best cleanup crew?

Every situation has its own needs. There is no single best cleanup crew. If you are having problems with brown algae, go with snails, these are the best with any diatomaceous type blooms. For hair algae, try a variety. Scarlet reef hermits are excellent at eating hair algae, as are sally...
  14. Red Lights

This is probably true, and I have heard the same thing myself. The reasoning behind this is that red is one of the first colors to be filtered out as depth increases. The ability to recognize red is really not needed beyond the first few feet. As for the red bulb, I would recommend against it. I...
  15. Cleaner shrimp breeding!! ( i think )

This probably happens to anyone who keeps cleaner shrimp long enough. Shrimp are hermaphroditic (male and female) so in theory they can self-fertilize. The reality is that they probably still mate with another shrimp. So, if you have more than one, chances are that they are fertile eggs. Now the...
