if you have sand you really shouldnt have to clean it. the critters in the sand should do it for you. even with the lr critters will move from the rock to the sand and vice versa. they eat all the junk on the bottom and off the rock

after the tank has cycled that is the best time to add the clean up crew. most new tanks have the diatom alge bloom and if added can start gettin on it. also with the clean up crew you can add them directly to the tank if you get the corals you will have to definitly get better lighting. but...
