I am just going to order The Conscientious Marine Aquarist and I would like to order a few others. I would like one to deal with lighting and another for corals, mushrooms etc. What can you suggest?

Also if there are some other books that you can recommend please let me know.

Thanks

The Reef Aquarium Vol. 1 and 2 by Sprung and Delbeek. The Natural Reef Aquarium by Tullock.

John Tullock has had the best books I have read about the reef system. Also Sprung recently released a coral book with great pictures, and nice little schematics for corals (were to put them, flow, hardiness, aggression, lighting, and even how to pronounce their names).

Hi BCReefer,
The Conscientious Marine Aquarist is the best First One. Next, I'd highly recommend Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals; then The Reef Aquarium, Vols. I&II, by Delbeek & Sprung; and Scott Michael's Aquarium Fishes. These would give you an excellent library.
I also have Tullock's Natural Reef Aquariums; Joyce Wilkerson's Clownfishes and Their Host Anenomes; Baensch Marine Atlas, Vol. I; andA Practical Guide to Corals, by Puterbaugh & Borneman. These are all excellent books as well. I have several others but these are the best and most current ones.
HTH,
Dick

My library currently consists of Sprung and Delbeeks "The Reef Aquarium" vols 1 & 2, Tullock's "Natural Reef Aquariums", Sprung's 'Corals - A Quick Reference Guide", Borneman's "Aquarium Corals - Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History", and Kuiter's "Seahorses, Pipefishes and Their Relatives". All geat books, but I feel like I've "outgrown" Tullocks book, I use "The Reef Aquarium" series for reference, and refer to Bornemans the most often for up to date general info.
Whatever books you buy, make sure that it is either a good recommended reference book, or a book that has recently been published. There have been a lot of recent advances in this hobby in the last few years, and you need books that address them (CA reactors, DSB, MH and HQI lighting, quality products vs. crap, refugiums) It's great stuff to read while you're waiting for a new tank to cycle or for LR to cure.

FYI:
Tullock's Natural Reef Aquariums and The Conscientious Marine Aquarist are from the same publisher and very similar in context/pictures/and references. Both are great, but dont get both.

I have Conscientious Marine Aquarist and Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman and Im happy with them, great staples. Bornemans book is good for understanding the basic biology of corals, as well as being a good reference. Conscientious is more of a "This is what a filter/live rock/sump is and does" type book, but I use it for a fish reference as well.

I received my order of Aquarium Corals by Eric Bornemann last week and is really impressed with the book. It is very informative and the author shares not only proven facts but also stuff based on his experiences. Now I even bring the book to work to steal a quick read when the boss isnt looking..

I have to disagree on the Tullock versus Fenner statement. I think both have a completely different scope. Of course the first half of both is the same but that's true for most aquarium books. I thought Tullock's was geared more towaard reef tanks and the ecosystems involved while Fenner's book was geared more towards fish and which ones were more suited for aquariums.

If I were to buy just one book it would be John Tullock's Natural Reef Aquariums. My second book would be Eric Borneman's Aquarium Corals. I like Sprung/Deelbeck's book, but it is not organized as well as Borneman's book (IMO) even though it has some great information. Scott Michael's Marine Fishes is a great reference even though I don't know if it should really be entitled "Marine Fish" or "Marine Fish." I mean, isn't the word "Fish" plural already? ;)
