  1. MAGNETIC OR ELECTRIC MH BALLAST?

I had a CSL electronic ballast compact flourescent light and it drove my radio shack light controller batty. Also, it would trip the GFI every time it was turned on. I had to sell it. My MH/PC light is run by a large magnetic ballast and seem to work fine.
  2. Rio's

I have 4 Rio pumps running two pumps. What I find irritating is they don't restart if they are temporairily shut off to feed the tank etc. One has to probe the impeller to restart the pump. What does the group recomment as replacement submersible pumps?
  3. Chevron Tang Passing

Thank you all for your replies. I have been away for the last few days so this reply is a little late. After reading your replies and reviewing my set-up, I think the lack of oxygenation is the culprit. The Q tank is actually a large clear tupperware container with a lid on it to prevent any...
  4. Chevron Tang Passing

Thanks for replying to my note. The LFS kept his Sp. Gr at 1.014 and I duplicated that. I used the standard acclimation process of adding a small percentage of water to his delivery water every 15 minutes. I added no meds to the tank and relied on the bubbles from the foam filter for...
  5. Chevron Tang Passing

Two weeks ago I aquired a beautiful juvenile Chevron Tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis) from my LFS. He had had the specemin for two weeks. The fish was quarantined along with two Black False Perculas. The fish was eating well, very active albiet shy, constantly grazing on the macro feather...
  6. Soft Coral Growth

Currently my water parameters are Ca 400, Kh 9.3, Alk, 3.31 and PH 8.0. I change about 25% of the water per month. I have been using B-ionic to raise the CA, Kh and Alk and it has been a slow process.
  7. Fish and invert compatability

I have a 65 gallon reef set-up that I have yet to add fish to. I also have a 75 gallon FOWLR set-up. In quarantine and ready to be released from prison is a tank raised neon pseudochromis (Pseudochromis aldabrensis). In the reef tank I have a cleaner shrimp, a pepermint shrimp, feather duster...
  8. Soft Coral Growth

I added several soft coral frags from GARF back in mid September, (the 65 gallon tank is three months old). Aside from the Keyna tree and green star polyps which are growing/expanding, the mushrooms and zooanthids look healthy but don't appear to be growing or spreading. Twice a week I feed the...
  9. Halimeda Bleaching

Everyone, thanks for the replies. One note of interest, where the large planting of Halimeda broke off, a new sprout has begun to appear. Different question, I added several soft coral frags from GARF back in mid September. Aside from the Keyna tree and green star polyps which are...
  10. Halimeda Bleaching

Hi, I am new to this forum, I have a new 65 gallon reef set-up, 2 months old with about 100 lbs of live rock split between the main tank and the refugium/sump. Filtration is accomplished by an algae scrubber and small skimmer. Tank stats are Ca 395, Kh 9.3, Alk 3.31, Ph 8, Sp. Gr. 1.024, No3 0...
