  1. Has my plenum crashed?

I have a plenum set up in a separate sump. Water goes from the main sump thru a protein skimmer to the plenum and back to the main sump. This setup has been working well for about 2 years now but in the last 2 days it has started producing a foul sulfur odor. Is this an indication that the...
  2. What type of plant is this

I am setting up a small refugium. Can someone tell me what type of plant this is and if it is any good for a fuge? Thanks Jeff
  3. Firefish Gobys disappear for weeks

The tank does stay pretty active with 5 Heniochus Butterflies and a Purple Tang in there but the gobies are not shy about coming out other times. Jeff
  4. Firefish Gobys disappear for weeks

I have a pair of Fire Gobys that will retreat into their cave for several weeks at a time. I don't even see them come out to eat. When they reappear they appear healthy. At first I had given them up for dead but now it is a regular thing that happens every month or 2. Could they be breeding...
  5. Chiller??

Keep in mind the heat and noise dumped into the room where the chiller is located. Stay away from the drop in coil models unless you can live with the limited distance the chiller can be located from the tank. Jeff
  6. Lazy Royal Gramma

He was in my main tank (250gal) for about 6 months with plenty of hiding places but I was worried he may be sick so I moved him to a quarantine tank which has several artificial decorations in it. While he has not gotten any worse in the QT, I have not seen any improvement either. Jeff
  7. Lazy Royal Gramma

I have a Royal Gramma presently in my quarantine tank that looks healthy but seldom swims. He mostly lies around on the bottom, often on his side or back. I have seen him swim normally on occasion but he has ben doing this for several months now. Is this expected behavior or should I attempt...
  8. Red Slime Algae Help? Never seen it like this in 15 years

Jolieve Why do you say " Do NOT reduce the photoperiod. Cyanobacteria (red slime algae) thrives in a low light environment. Keep the lights on their normal cycle." The only place I have Cyno growth is in the tank itself. My sump which has no light does not grow any. Jeff
  9. chiller

I use my Medusa to operate an external relay which controls power to my chillers. This way the controller is only providing the small amount of current required to close the relay contacts. You can size the relays as necessary for you chiller loads. Jeff
  10. USING COIL DENITRIFICATION UNIT

I have used a double coil model before. They do work but require a very slow flow rate. If you have a large tank it will not have much effect. I also built a homemade unit that had 3 times the coils capacity but it was still a drop in the bucket. Jeff
  11. Denitrator

I have used the Nitra Gone coil denitrator. It does work but you have to slow the flow rate down so much that the unit is ineffective for any large size tank. Jeff
  12. Anyone know where I can purchase a Battery Powered 'Backup'

    This one would proably run your system for a day. APC® Back-UPS Pro 1100 http://www.samsclub.com/eclub/main_shop ... dgoodfkh.0
  13. Choosing a chiller!!!

If you want a silent chiller that wont heat up you house, check out this link http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... ht=chiller It puts all the noise and heat outside. Jeff
  14. Leaking AmpMaster

I had a leaky seal on one of my ampmasters so I sent them an e mail requesting a replacement seal. I had the new seal a few day later. I can't complain about that service. Jeff
  15. Skimmer goes crazy at night

It occurs several times a week at least. The tank inhabitants are 3 green chromis, 2 3 spot damsels, 3 false clowns, 2 fire gobys and 1 royal gramma. Tank & sump volume is about 325 gal. The skimmer is an aerofoamer. Thank goodness for the auto shut off collection cup. I can't imagine...
