Instead of using sand I have a one inch layer of "crud" and small rubble peices that I was able to scoop out of a live rock vat from a local fish store. The pod population is incredible and it gives my caluerpa a place to anchor. HTH

Its coming along nicely. I'm still waiting for the macro's in the fuge to take off but other than that things are going well. Already wishing for larger one:)

Just another vote for the marine betta. Gourgeous fish, a bit on the shy side, and a low key tankmate. Just don't plan on adding any shrimp to the tank :)

That is completely normal. My sarco does that often and he continues to grow with no ill affects, even in good water conditions. As was stated earlier you can use a baster to clear off any film that it might produce after one of these retracting sessions. HTH
