  1. My Desjardini has cloudy eye... any solution to it?

When a fish gets a cloudy eye, is it common for it to happen to both eyes? The reason I ask is that my puffer has only one cloudy eye, while the other one is just fine. As soon as I test my water I'll post my values, but in the meantime I'm curious as to what think? - thanks.
  2. Emerald crab eating habits

Not to go off topic, but I used to have Bumble Bee snails from my last aquarium and they are the best snails I ever had. They are the fastest algae eating snails by far compared to any other snails.. which might account for their price tag.... anyhow, thanks for the info :)
  3. Emerald crab eating habits

Interesting, mine seems to plow through everything, even the coralline... however, my tank is a new established system and the coralline and other vegatable matter on the live rock are mostly dead, so perhaps that is why it is cutting it all away. I don't have that much algae, just as yet...
  4. Emerald crab eating habits

I've added an emerald crab to my tank and he's starting to make quite a mess of things. He's been attacking my Live Rock with a vengence, leaving all kinds of matter on the sand... i.e. stuff that used to grow on the live rock, but not the actual rock itself :) I started this tank about 6 weeks...
  5. What kind of Crab is this?

Well, I didn't want to kill the bugger since he or she has some character (eyes bug up and down), so I took the risk (heh heh heh, I know what you are all thinking) and so far so good. He's found a nice clump of algae to eat and has been feasting ever since. Thanks everyone for the info and...
  6. What kind of Crab is this?

Alright, I took another pic but this should be enough for a guess. A friend of mine said that it might be a female Red Crab since it doesn't have the large claws... any guesses? Anyone? Even without the photo someone must be able to be able to make a guess based on the description... thanks...
  7. What kind of Crab is this?

Anyone know what type of crab this is? It has black legs and a red/orange soft shell. I don't think it's part of the Hermit family because it doesn't have a hard shell like the rest of the hermits. I've read about the red Crabs, but this one doesn't have large pincers, just small ones... pretty...
  8. moonlights.....blue or whitish??

I have a single moonlight module, since my tank is only a 30gal. I was thinking about putting a second one, but I think it good for the fish to decide if they want to be in the light or not. Anyhow, mine gives off a more whitish moonlight glow compared to a blue one. It's still on the cool side...
  9. Low, Med, Hi lighting level defined

Whenever I look at the corals and fish lighting requirements, they list it by Low, med/moderate, to high lighting levels. Can someone please explain to me how do I define these in Kelvin? Is an Acitinic lightsource considered moderate? Is a 10K considered high lighting level compared to an...
  10. Nighttime or Deep Ocean Reef Aquarium

My aquarium is a flatback hexagon that is 30"x16"x16". So it's 16" deep from top to bottom. I know I won't be able to create a real deep ocean reef since the deep sea pressure will be different and it sounds like the fish are quite expensive. What would you recommend for a low light level reef...
  11. Actinic lights

I understand why you need lights that are 10K kelvin in strength, but what is an Actinic light and why do most powercompact lighting systems combine them with 10k's?
  12. Nighttime or Deep Ocean Reef Aquarium

I want to create a deep ocean or constant moonlight reef aquarium. What kind of coral can survive in this type of lighting situation? Also, what type of fish can also thrive in this environment? Is there a book/web link that deals with this situation? - Thanks in Advance.
  13. Water Cycle and chemical tests

It's been 3 weeks now since I put together my 30gal tank. I've been testing the water composition and so far everything is reading fine except for the Water Hardness (KH) and Phosphates. I haven't hit any ammonia or Nitrite spikes that I have read about in books during a cycle... perhaps that...
  14. Bubble Traps

I just purchased the BakPak2R Protein Skimmer and noticed that it states as a description "...provides an effective way to reduce bubbles caused by system imbalances." In addition, you can purchase an option called a Bubble Trap. Now why would you want to trap bubbles (with the exception of...
  15. VaiAqua Multi-Skimmer?

I bought the ViaAqua skimmer and found it very noisey. Thought it would be a great deal to have filtration, skimmer and uv in one, but the instructions were terrible and confusing. I bought a bakPak2 instead. I purchased it for $129.00 online. Hasn't arrived yet so I can't compare it to the...
