  1. Nori feeder

I am not a fan of the nori algea clips. They work, but big chunks get torn off and float into the overflow. And I wanted to be able to feed my tank without putting my hands in the water. So, after some thinking I came up with this. I just fold or roll the sheet into a cigar shape, and slide...
  2. auto water changer equipment

I have a 180 gallon display tank that is connected to a 150 gallon stock tank. The stock tank is plumbed to a drain in the floor. It takes me 5 min to do a 50 gallon water change. I open the valve, let the stock tank drain to a fixed point. Shut the valve. The I flip a light switch that is...
  3. How many reef ugrades and down grades have you done

    I started with a 75. Now I have a 180. But with the 75 I had several sump upgrades. I started with a 20 g, then 50g, then 150g. With the 180 I have a 150g stock tank.
  4. Where to buy corals/frags?

Ok, I am ready to start stocking my tank. I do not live in NY, and the lfs suck in my area. So, what online vendors do you like? Or does anyone have frags that they know how to ship? If your a private seller, pm me please. I teach, so I will not be buying the latest designer coral for $600...
  5. best monti caps?

    anyone?
  6. best monti caps?

I am starting to stock my tank. What I have in it, mostly tester corals, are doing great. So, I am ready for monti caps. I am wanting a green/purple rimmed as well as red/orange. What are the best colored versions to look for? I have heard/seen the Tyree and Ling Si versions. Any other...
  7. Houston, TX?

I will be in Houston, TX next week, all week. Does anyone know of any good aquariums in the area? I did a search and came up with the Houston Aquarium downtown, but it seems like it was more for little kids -even had rides. Or any good reef shops? Long stretch that anyone might know, but...
  8. framing out a 180 in-wall system

anyone else have suggestions or know of a thread here or elsewhere?
  9. framing out a 180 in-wall system

Damn, the idea of trimming it in stone is a cool idea. More than you know. I have a rock wall with a gas fireplace in it downstairs that is close to the tank (25 ft away). I am going to have to invistigate that some more. Trip to Lowes today! But if I don't go that way, what other...
  10. framing out a 180 in-wall system

Thanks for compliments and ideas. Are there any threads on here with design ideas -what molding pieces to use, etc.? Yes, I was wanting to go with crown molding on top. from the top of the tank to the ceiling it is 12.5". That was part of the trade off of moving the tank higher - so I...
  11. framing out a 180 in-wall system

:groupflipOk men, and ladies, I am wanting to see pictures and get ideas for how to frame out my 180g built into the wall tank. I built a 'bar' or shelf that the tank sits on to set my beverage of the day on. But I need to trim the rest out. I want more than just the typical window casing...
  12. Mag/Calc out of wack

The salt is IO, he did test it twice, but until I order my test kits, I will have it tested again, and yes, good idea on taking in a batch of mixed salt water and have them test that as well.
  13. Mag/Calc out of wack

The tank has not been neglected. Water changes at least every three weeks. No corals in yet. I wanted to be positive that the tank was stable. Salifert test kit. Salinity at 1.026. If so some reason the calcium and mag get off balanced, then they have a negative effect on each other. They must...
  14. Mag/Calc out of wack

A salifert test kit was used, it was new, and I watched the guy, who I trust, test. I can put up a pic later when I get home to take a pic. I have some green hair algae, and red slime (cyno?). I have not been dosing with anything. I have been doing a water change about every three weeks. The...
  15. Mag/Calc out of wack

So, my 180 has been up and running for less than 6 months. I had the water tested the other day. Here are the results: alk: 11.2 calc: 300 mag: 600 ph: 8.1 so, I know that the calc and mag are way low. I normally run mag at 1400 or a bit higher and calc at 450. I would like to get the alk...
