  1. The further I dig, the deeper it gets.

I am also going to be setting up a 75 gallon reef as well. I have used the overflow for years, although as it works fine, it takes up space and it can be a little noisy; so I am looking in to drilling my glass tank for both input and output. As far as the deep sand bed in the reef, I think it...
  2. Saving Percula Nemo

We have the same sand here in Alabama. I tried it in my 10 gallon, it was only $15 here though. It's been a little over a week and I will have to admit that it does help. I am not completely through the cycle but probably a few more days and it will be finished. I also have 10lb's of live rock...
  3. wild sea water

Hi JJ, I live in Spanish Fort. A friend of mine at the Register has done this at the Fairhope Pier right at the boat launch. Although, all he keeps are bay fish and critters, so I am not sure about using LFS fish or critters. He goes down once a week and grabs 5 gallons of saltwater for water...
  4. Buy salt water or make my Own?

if you have access to pre-made RO Saltwater, I would start the tank with that and then mix your own for water changes. If you do mix your own make sure that you at least get either fresh distilled or RO water to mix with. Not a good idea to use tap water. Hope that helps, Digiman
  5. Nikon 5700 or Canon G5?

I would definately go with the Canon G5. I work at the Mobile Register newspaper and a lot of the sports reporters use that camera. It is a very nice camera. Neither are a DSLR, they are called ZSLR or Zoom Single Lens Reflex. The DSLR have interchangeable leses such as the Canon Rebel 300D or...
  6. Canon EOS-10D

This is most likely either used or an import. Either of which you probably wouldn't want. They haven't announed 10D's replacement yet, so no reason that it should be that cheap. I have just bought a 10D from National Graphics Supply and they had the cheapest price at the time at 1379.00. If you...

  8. New pics - 2nd Shipment of TBS rock :o)

Here is the first shipment of rock and sand. And here is what it looks like with the second shipment of rock with the cleanup crew... I am loving it! Tryied to get as much shelving as I could when scaping the rock for the corals. There is a peice that has cabage leather coral in the upper...

  10. Filtration question

I have a 55 gallon that I have just setup with 55 lbs of LR and 55 lbs of LS. I currently am running a wet/dry with a 400 GPH powerhead as the return; which isn't doing much for circulation. I also have 3 other smaller powerheads in the tank to help with the circulation but still doesn't seem to...
  11. How long have you been Reefkeeping for?

I'm on my second week ;o) Although, I have had many FWFO, SWFO, and a FOWLR, but this the first reef setup and enjoying every minute of it! :D -- Digiman
  12. Pics of new TBS live rock

That's exactly what I thought. I was hoping someone would pick up on that and tell me what it was. If you look closely on the 8th photo down on lower right side of the huge peice of rock there's brain coral! :D There are also many colonies of dwarf cup coral. -- Digiman :D
  13. Pics of new TBS live rock

Rich, It was a package deal for $580. The package is split up into two shipments. The first shipment was half the LR (55 lbs) and 55 lbs of LS. The second shipment is the other half of LR and the cleanup crew (110 Blue leg hermits, 28 Turbo Snails, 4 Tiger tail cukes, 2 brittle/serpant stars...
  14. Pics of new TBS live rock

Hello all, Well, my first shipment of Tampa Bay Saltwater 55 lbs of LR and 55 lbs of LS has finally come. I also have a few peices of Figi base rock in there also. It has been up for a few days now and most of the debris has come of the rocks and the water is much clearer now. So, here are the...
  15. glass under lights neccessary?

I don't use a glass cover on mine. Although, I don't use MH lighting either, not sure what effects there would be on the bulbs. I use PC lighting and I just wipe them down with a paper towel everyother day or so. The bulbs are about 6" above the water line, so they only get a little bit of a...
