  2. Purple Algea?

You can have all you want!! I would like to find a fish or a invert that would thrive on this stuff. It would be a very fat and happy camper! Bob
  3. Purple Algea?

I have can not seem to stop this algea from spreading. I have a tang, lawnmower blenny, blue leg crabs, assorted snails. It seems that this particular algea isn't a favorite meal for any of these critters. does anyone have a suggestion as to what would really indulge on this algea! Bob
  4. Decent quality limewood airstones?

zosterae311, I make my own out of basswood. save the barbed insert from the old airstone, drill and cut the basswood and insert barb and you have a very fine airstone. I have been using basswood for 6 yrs. now! basswood has very fine pores, they still need to be replaced every 3-4 weeks. If you...
  5. sand/crushed coral

fishinsouthga, sounds like you may need to increase your flow inside your tank, add a powerhead or two! The current will keep the detris moving around in the water column. Hopefully your skimmer will then remove the excess.
  6. I vacuumed a four year old sand bed.......

dimaggio, Do you have a sump with macro algae in it? If not, it will help control the P04. This was the same problem I had encountered a year ago. I added a sump with some caulerpa bye bye P04.
  7. Who has had a tank leak or fail...or knows someone who has?

I watched my little cousins give a num chuk (martial arts weapon) demo. and low and behold he was alittle bit to close to his 20g fresh water tank. You should of seen his dad coming up the stairs with water on his shirt. Tims room was on the 2nd floor and his dad was reading the paper in the...
  8. I vacuumed a four year old sand bed.......

12 years I started a Bare bottom Berlin style tank, best thing going at the time (according to Albert Thiel). The only problem was lots of maintenance, and High No3. The trials on the sand beds looked very inviting with zero N03. Well it didn't take long to decide to put a sand bed in my built in...
  9. How does one purchase frags/products from GARF??

Give Leroy a call, he will tell you whats hot and whats not at garf. He's the owner.
  10. If you ever need to drill an acrylic tank....

Forstner bits defenitly do a much nicer job! As far as melting the plastic I believe all the extra metal on the bit slows the heat obsorbtion down, so it take more to get it up to the melting point.

Rhomb, I believe it is Asexual reproduction. (budding)
  12. new baby flower anemone

  13. Drastic Measures?

I've heard that the Joe's Juice is having some good results with killing them!
  14. SAND/ LIVE SAND

DeadHead, The reason for seeding the sand is to introduce the micro critters that are not present in sterile sand (dry sand or crushed coral). These little critters love to consume the waste that falls to the sand floor. Hope this helps!!
  15. Here we go, Plenum or DSB alone??

That was My big issue 2 years ago when I set up my built in 90g reef tank . Both systems seemed to work for most reef keepers. So I made a compromise. I used 2" of very coarse arga. on the very bottom(that was the dead water space simular to the plenum) then on top of that I used a med. fine...
