I might point out that for a 150g tank, you don't really need a 100 gpd filter. All you should really need is enough to keep the tank topped up from evaporation.
Having a filter with less output makes filling the tank initially a bit slower, but otherwise its fine.
My clowns decided that the open brain coral was a cozy place to hang out. The brain really didn't like this, and stayed deflated for a few weeks. I moved the brain to the other end of the tank, and this convinced the clown's to move on to the anenome.
It took another couple weeks, but now the...
I have two Iwakis for circulation. It was easy for me, I just filled the tank until the water level hit the bulkheads and water drained into the the lines and then I powered up the pump.
How is your Iwaki plumbed into your system?
Most of the reports I've read say the ph should be between 8.0 and 8.4 where 8.2 is ideal. The real key is to keep whatever value steady. A constantly variable ph is really hard on fish.
I have two closed loops on my 65G. One is midway down on the back of the tank and the other is 3/4 the way down on one end of the tank.
The bulkheads have pretty long strainers to reduce suction (maybe 2" long) and the snails have no trouble with them. In fact I've seen several snails crawl...
I should also say that I need a small step in the room behind the tank if I want to reach the bottom of the tank. The room behind the tank is pretty crammed (its also under a staircase) but it all seems to work.
I have a 65G (tall) recessed into a wall in my basement. The tank is 24" tall. The primary place from which this tank is viewed is my desk chair, so I decided to place the tank such that the middle of the tank was a bit higher than eye height when sitting.
This means the tank is virtually in...
Salt buildup is mostly normal, and usually unavoidable. Keep scraping the salt back into the tank regularly so that the salinity of your tank doesn't change (assuming you have automatic topoffs with fresh water).
Was the float switch in the main tank or in a sump? What caused it to jam?
bad float switches are my number one concern about the system I am about to setup. I plan to have the Typhoon III fill a 5 gallon bucket (with its supplied float switch) and then use another float switch to pump water...
