  1. Cannot keep stony corals.

I agree, that tank looks very nice the way it is. Different than the standard look. I have never been able to get sps to grow and look nice, although I have had every type and size reef over the last 20 yrs. I downsized recently to a 20g, so my 11yr. old clowns had a nice place for...
  2. Why only RO water?

I know of some cities on our west coast, where the tap water is extremely low in tds. I suppose one could use it for certain tanks or even reefs, with some filtering. As others mentioned, most are not like that. Even in our own city here, the newer section has a tds reading of 200 to 300...
  3. Contact with Eric Borneman

http://forum.marinedepot.com/ Ok,I was just reading his forum and see he,s not posting there either. Sorry Alf, best I can offer.
  4. FAMA

The Aquarium Fish International that still includes a Fama section in it, is not to bad. I still had a few issues left after they took over. Impressed me enough to renew. I find it makes good reading for doctor waiting rooms and the such.
  5. Metal Halide

I think that would be fine.
  6. Metal Halide

Nothing wrong with running the supplemental for 12 but perhaps could cut the halides back to 8 hrs. tops. I know of some, {with good supplementals} only running halides 5 to 6 hrs. on full blown sps tanks. Mine runs 9 hrs. but is only a 150w HQI and no actinics.
  7. Water changes and water containers

The o2 would for sure be done and ph but nothing a powerhead cant turn over. Just get a good surface boil going in the container or the airstone as suggested. Mines usually mixed up to a week in advance in salt buckets and sits with the lid on. I dont leave the powerhead running all week but...
  8. Would I be mad to remove my sand bed after only 3 months?

Having kept reefs for more years than I can remember, I have tried most ways. Never was a fan of sand, and by that I mean the finer type shallow or deep ones we see. My bare bottomed tanks have never had nuisance algae growth besides some problems with that red turf on some rocks. Which I picked...
  9. Distance between 150w fixture and water?

My current 150w pendant is about 10in. also but in a hood. When I ran hoodless and used a similar fixture, it would have only been a few inches off the water. Of course with the smaller reflector in them, the spread was not as good. Still ok for my 28in long tank. Just had to watch which corals...
  10. I've got 80 gallons to spare...

Sorry for the loss. They sure become close pets after that long.
  11. Valonia

Rob, I had somewhat of a similar problem, inherited from a friend with frags. Mostly just siphoned them out during water change but was loosing ground. A few weeks ago I was at the store to pick up my new tank and planned on getting some emeralds as I only had one. Figured on 3 or 4 in my...
  12. Will I regret going 150w?

I have a 150w Lumenmax 3 pendant powered by a 150w Galaxy electronic. Running the DE Phoenix 14k. Could not be happier with this combo so far. My tank is a 35g cube style 28l by 16w by 18h It was lit previous with a Lumenbright pendant/250w CV 12k bulb. Sold it because of the fit and also...
  13. A picture of my tank

Looks good Ben. Nice looking rock also.
  14. A couple pics of my new Bangaii Cardinals

I also started with three in my 225g when I had it. Figured I would do the same and remove the odd one out. Well 8O . I ended up with one male and two females, who put up with each other. Perhaps it was the large tank with an abundance of rock. I can tell you they kept that poor male...
  15. who feeds pellet food?

Mine love Ocean Nutrition Formula One marine pellets. Although my male perc seems not to interested, his female mate gobbles them down.
