Becouse it wasnt able to handle the load. It did extremely well with the other tank. However, it was struggling with a 500 gallon highly stocked tank. I knew when I went to the 700 gallon region that it wouldn't cut it. However, I still love the skimmer and to this day it was hands down the easiest and one of the best skimmers I have used.
