  1. Emerald Crabs

Hi, Funny this topic should come up (though it often does). I just brought a massive Emerald Crab to the LFS because i caught it litterally ripping my featherduster population to thread and immediately after that it began ripping off polyps from my Parazoanthis gracilis colony. This, after two...
  2. 6500 vs 10000k pictures.....

Hi, I'm curious of the age of the Iwasakis--the older style were a bit more yellow than the new ones out now. I have 2x250 watt Iwasakis and it looks nowhere near that yellow (although I do have 2x110 watt actinics going as well). I personally prefer the more natural crisp white light of the...
  3. Help from you DIY's on Metal Halide

Hi, those two Advance ballasts you referred to are actually Mercury vapor ballasts, not MH. Whether or not the one you have will fire an Iwasaki, I don't know, but I believe most MH ballasts will drive them but performance/longevity and reliablity are the issues. But, if you have it, it's worth...
  4. Help--Mass Montipora bleachings!

Hi all, This morning when I woke up...make it short, stupid! All of my montiporas (mostly frags) Digitata: Orange, Brown, Green are all bleaching. The polyps are out on all three, but the colors are wrong. The orange is pinkinh and the brown is turning white (the polyps) The green digitata has...
  5. How often do clowns spawn?

Hi, mine spawn every couple weeks. Just when the male thinks he can sit down, relax and watch some football---another clutch and back to areating and caring for the things again. Once they get setablish with a certain spot and are happy, they'll continue on a regaular basis...

  7. Do you think this coral will make it??

Looks like Hydnophora to me. It's an SPS and depending on your lighting, will not survive on the sand. they require a decent amount of light. Needs higher placement and more flow. Looks as if the lower sections were bleasched and they'll get grown over eventually. It has potential. HTH
  8. Come checkout/critique my new site..

Hi, Well, the conspriacy is that they only allow so much traffic at Geocities for the free websites. Upon realizing you need more traffic allotment (and you have the potential for more visitors), they begin sending you the data x-fer info, saying you need to either shrink your site to something...

Hi all. I haven't been the same since Homestead booted my old site off. Now I feel better
  10. Are you a redneck reefer ?

The damsels I've seen would make potential fish hesitant to take the hook, IMO.... Cute....
  11. VHO or PC for 55 Tank

I'd go with VHO, especially Icecap, then when you do eventually upgrade to a larger tank and/or desire MH lights (which you will) the VHO actinic are great for supplementation.
  12. A few Q's upon entering the next level...

Hi, with 19 fish in a 90 gallon, where else would you expect to be nitrates to be? High is the only way. If you're going to attempt the next level, you'll need to reduce your bioload considerably because corals are sensitive to high nitrates, With 6 fish in my 90, I consider myself fairly well...
  13. MH plus PC or VHO (or both)?

definitely go with the Icecap VHO actinic. I'm running 2x250 Iwasakis plus 2-110 VHO on a 660, this on a 90 RR. Beautiful..
  14. Banghai Cardinals

Hi, I don't believe it would be a good idea to place two Banggai in a 10 gallon. Although they do usually just hover, they do enjoy swimming and cruising the tank upon occasion. Plus, they are sometimes difficult to sex and if you get two males or females, then the ruthless battling between the...
