lets keep this thread going!

Did anyone else notice that they lowered the prices of the DAS skimmers by 4$40-50 at petorama.

Does anyone have an MTC HSA 250 skimmer? I'd be interested to see it in action.

Any updates on those DAS EX3 skimmers? I am thinking about getting one.

The third one they sent me is still sitting on my desk waiting for either a shaft bushing or a box to send the whole damn thing back to them.

IMO it is not worth the headache to deal with them, just buy a Deltec AP851 and be done with it. They have similar size body but the Deltec is better constructed and will perform better (based on my experience with the AP701).

yo cali what makes you think it's any better if the contruction is a bit better? I like to ask if one skimmer pulls in 20LPM and the other as well. What makes one better then the other if the chamber is the same but better material?

The largest DAS only utilizes Aquabee like pumps vs the workhorse Eheim pump. That alone makes a difference, I can tell from my AP600 and the AP702.
The EX-3 that cali got had glue joints that were a disgrace and simple design such as the inlet pipe within the body did not have a 45 degree elbow on the end to point the water flow downwards into the body.
So yeah, construction/design does make a difference.

Dave,

First, I don't think the DAS 2000/1 pumps are pulling that kind of air you are talking about, I bought some air gages and would hook them up if the damn thing is ready to run. The pump draws much less wattage than spec, that tells me the pin wheel is too light for the magnet\coil, which would mean slowing down when water and air are being sucked it.

Two. The craftsmanship sucks, remember the picture of the first DAS I got? I don't think the people putting them together in Texas have a brain, let along any skill.

Three. they use extruded acrylic for the body which is way too fragile for our use. They also use the un-finish side of black ABS as the collection cup cover top side, and the nicer finish is never seen, what a stupid thing to do.

If I want a poorly glued skimmer body I would just get another Chinese made BK copy for $300, not $800 for a supposedly great skimmer and deal with a vendor\manufacture that have poor service. For another $330 (retail price on Deltec) you can get a AP851 and be happy with it.
