The only way to reeform industry is to take legislative action which would include.

1. Prohibiting the import of fish from the Philippines and Indonesia where the use of cyanide is rampant.
2. Prohibing the import of fish and coral which have no chance of sucess in a reefers tank. the U.S.L. (Other than to experts and researchers).
3. Laying criminal charges under existing legislation against those who knowing import cyanide caught fish (under the Lacey Act.)

However as long as Bush is in office any efforts at reeform are wasted.

I mean, this is the guy who supports oil drilling in Alaska wildlife preserves and notwithstanding over 2,000 coffins returned, still thinks the war in Iraq can be won!

Just think how silly a lot of folks are going to look in about twelve months from now .......... Once the Iraq forces finish establishing themselves. We pull out
and more importantly during the Sadam trial some of his co horts spill the beans in an attempt to save their own necks.............and fess up that the WMD along with missing 10 billion in gold bars were shipped across the boarder for safe keeping in Syria.

Jenn, although for the reasons stated, it is a waste of time to try to accomplish anything under the present Bush administration, it is good that the issue was raised.

Raising awareness of the damage industry has done and continues to do to the reefs of the third world is important.

Kalk, tell that to the widows, orphans and parents.

What about the widows, orphans and parents who are suffering as a direct result of the brutal dictatorship of the former regime? I guess they don't count or you are far too closed minded to realize how insensitive your comments really are.

Do you have something against the people of Iraq?

You are absolutely right. You got rid of Sadam.
It is time for you to leave now.

I have many friends and an Iraqi business partner in the Middle East and have spent 16 days of the last two months there.

Just think how unsafe we would all feel if Sadam was still in power and pissed off that we invaded Afghanistan?
If still running his country, Sadam would still be bringing in billions through the black market oil for food scandal] There was a reason the UN placed economic sanctions on this guy. It was so that he could not buy new toys.
If the Soviets were willing to go behind our backs and buy oil with cash and gold instead of food supplies like mandated buy the UN resolutions they agreed were nessesary........inriching this mass murderers' bank account........then what makes some so sure the Russians would not of been willing to trade some old cold war WMD for black gold? {oil}.
Better safe then sorry.....to end the threat before the unspeakable.

So Wayne is going to sit on his hands until Bush's term is over. What if the Republicans are voted in again?

And if we drop everything and vacate Iraq before the job is done, what happens then? Nature abhors a vacuum - the insurgents will be fighting each other to get control and chaos will ensue. And if the US did just that, all the armchair generals would be whining that Bush didn't finish the job - some folks just can't do anything right, can they?

Meanwhile - while the imaginary "Reeform" sits and waits til the time is right for "them" to do anything, business goes on as usual.

Yep, I'm feelin' the love of this forum too :)

No I am not going to sit on my hands. I am going to assist in rebuiding a little part of Iraq into it's glory and grandeur.
But, it is those in industry that can make a differece. Blow the whistle on those you know are contravening the Lacey Act.
Go public and force the police to lay indictments against the worst of you and you know who they are.

Thank God, on our knees, that Bush can only rule over two terms of office but I expect Americans to elect a similar President. After all, they elected Bush not once but twice to the dismay of the rest of the world.

No, Jenn it will not be the insurgents who will fight each other after the Americans retreat a la Viet Nam. If there is a civil war it will be fought between the Iraqi people themselves. Just like in your civil war, there will be winners and losers.

Keep your eye on the ball Naesco, your losing focus. Bush is not forcing the importation of cyanide caught fish into Canada, is he? Have you stopped all importation of drugged fish to Canada? Do all your fish have nice bar codes on them yet showing where they came from?

Anyone who is crazy enough to think that a government can just wave the magic red tape wand and fix things is nuts and should only allowed to live in Canada or France. Problem has to be fixed, but red tape won't fix it, you can have a bunch of idiots in offices make rules or write grants when they have no idea of what is happening on the ground. Market driven changes work, rules are just made to get bent.

Nesesco also you must remember when we pulled out of Viet Nam, millions of people were slaughtered , peace is relative.

Also have you submitted your abstracts to MO'06 in Las Vegas?????
Please submit one by Monday so you can give a presentation on your views and debate the issues.

BTW, we elected W again because there was no better option. Sorry to tell you but, socialism isn't coming to a town near me.

if you'll be doing it in any way similiar to the way you've 'reeformed' the industry, i think we better go warn the iraqi's

mebbe they'd prefer having saddam back

I wish Bush could run again for office. He is, after all, the right president and the right time at the right place.

God Bless America!

Gresh see what you started!
Look who crawler out from underneath the rock!

In hindsite, I should have spent my time bringing in legislation in Canada.

Because the US was by far the largest importer of cyanide caught fish and therefore the largest contributor to the destruction of the reefs in third world countries, I felt the efforts should be US oriented.

Like the rest of the world, I did not in my wildest dreams think that the American voters could ever consider re-electing Bush. I thought they were smarter than that.

Your Viet Nam comment is true but, Spawner, what do you say to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have lost sons, grandsons, husbands, fathers, brothers, relatives and friends to this senseless slaughter in Iraq?
