Its either codium or a sponge. Neither are bad unless you don't like the way they look

Does Codium help use up any excess nutrients.

Yes but it looks like it could be codium in the first two pics and looks like a sponge in the third. Its most likely a sponge. Did you do a google image search to more precisely ID? Since you can see it in person you can make the final call. Its definitely one or the other though.
