I have never seen anything like this before. Can anyone ID it, and tell me if it is safe to put it back in my reef.

I don't want to kill it if it is ok to place it back in.

It's base is soft, also most shaped like a moller, and the top part looks & feels like silkie hair.

Could it just be a piece of food that got caught in the rocks? The only food mixture that I could think of is the home made stuff that have clams, fish, shrimp, and only the good old Chef knows what.;)

could also be the crown of a feather duster if he was stressed it could have shed its crown if you have any of them. if not then go with clams feet
