well, the cuda is gone, and for some strange reason, the grouper has not bothered this fish at all. they swam next to each other many times, and the grouper didnt try to bite it once. after a while, the grouper kept to the opposite side of the tank, still, no aggression shown by any fish. so far so good...

back in the bay. wasnt eating anything, grouper was attacking it, and kept getting stuck in the corners like it couldnt swim backwards. i guess the tank was too small.

well i knew about the barracuda, but he just wouldnt eat anything, would u rather it die it my tank?

I find it hard to believe because you had an ID thread for the barracuda as well.--->http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum...hink-i-caught-barracuda-reynolds-channel.html

If you don't know what it is don't bring it home. If you bring it home and there is a problem with caring for the fish then maybe you should bring it to someone who can help you or donate it to a place like Atlantis maybe they could have saved it. Chances are that barracuda is dead in the waters where you caught/released it.

There are many fish that are protected by the DEC and it's illegal to collect catch or collect them at certain sizes. If you don't know what it is it's best not to take it home.

its basically the same concept of fishing, u take something out of the water, then you put it back if you dont want it, except without the hook. and why are the chances are that it would die? it was living there in the first place.

Obviously you don’t know the dangers involved and that’s fine, many people don’t so you need to be educated. Here is an example, when Europe/Spain were conquering lands in the Mexico region they brought with them various diseases and in turn infected the native Aztecs. What’s the problem with that? The Aztecs were never exposed to such viruses and in term died off in mass numbers because they were not resilient. This is the danger you and others have posed to our local waters by collecting, bringing home and then releasing. You may think your tank is completely 1,000% pathogen free but there is a possibility that the cuda caught something in your tank and now you just threw it back into the ocean infected. You risk infecting thousands of fish with a potential disease that they may not be resilient too. Now what your going to say is, well it’s an ocean fish its water. No. Fish from the Red Sea can be exposed to a completely different pathogen then species from the Marshall Islands. Lets not forget that there has been no known case of HLLE found in our open waters, only in captive environments’. That’s the real danger to your decision. We are not stopping you from local collecting, just saying to be smarter about it.

No it is not the same concept as fishing. Read Georges post above and then read the link I provided. Also look at jejton's post as well you may have broken the encon laws.

I am not a supporter of local collection at all. It is my opinion that it is completely wrong and it because of reasons like this. People collect things without doing the proper research as to the care of that life they are taking from its natural environment. But if you are going to collect you should at least do it responsibly and make educated decisions about the animals you collect not just "Hey this looks nice and interesting I think I'll bring it home and then we'll find out what it is"
