Hi, I know the title sounds odd and vague but...last night I went to stare at my tank. I turned the lights on and saw something that looked like a worm sticking out of a hole in one of my large pieces of rock.

I continued to stare because other than fan worms and maybe 1-2 bristles that came into my sump via some new sand I bought, I have seen no worms.

But then...it elongated itself out of that hole ...maybe 5 inches. I'd say diameter would be .5 cm at it's thickest, and less than .1 at the thinnest.
It's color was...a bit transluscent pink. The only section that looked as if it had 'organs' or rather the only park that lacked an obvious transcluncent appearance would be the tip of this 'tentacle'.

So, I was freaked out. Then became even MORE SO, when I noticed one of these tentacles coming out of the same rock, through a diff. location, and then a totally different rock at a diff. location.
These two rocks are near each other. And so, 3 'tentacles' in all, where reaching around my tank.

The 'tentacles' generally retreated once I put the lights on/once the lights reached full blast. But 2 of 3 of them stuck out maybe... .5 cm for about 5-8mins afterwards.

WTH!!!! I've had this tank for like what seems 'forever' and have never seen this, even after hours of playing and staring, re-scaping, etc. I'm scared for my critters.... Should I contact the rocks 2 previous owners about what this could be? Should I take the rock out, try and remove the zoo's growing on it, then smash the rock apart to kill/etc this deviant?

:sigh:

and no, I don't have a picture, but the 'tentacles' are the color of rose anemones (the lighter color, just pinkish and not bulbed).

btw, if it's important, this is a piece of rock that had been cycling with just a heater and water flow for 2mos at least

Ok, I just finished, after your redirection, and don't see it there yet. That could be because I haven't seen the entire animal. I don't know if these were 3 different animals or not.
Since I saw 2 tentacles in 1 rock, that could have been 1, but not sure.

Also, the 'tentacle' part I saw had no segments, and I'm not sure if I saw any attachments at the very tip, and tip only of the 'tentacle'.

I'm going to keep watching. Every day I find some thing new, and it rarely turns out to be a good thing...

found 2 apstasia on 1 peice of newly bough LR, killed the large one, will kill the tiny one tonight.... and 2 uncool brown anemones, that are as bad as apstasia on another.
geez...

It is almost impossible to ID something like this without pics, it could be several diferent things even with the great description you gave.

Yeah, I'm kind of 'over it' now. It's some kind of worm, not segmented, it's funny to me now to tell you the truth. So far it hasn't reached out to kill...just seems to be grabing at the sediment and debris on the rocks. Once I get a camera I'll repost to this thread. They come out when there is no light.

Thanks for the comments now anyway, I was just really freaked out.
