Does anyone have any luck with aiptasia eating filefish(Acreichthys tomentosus). I'm looking for one.
I had one from Dom, at Diamonds of the reef....did a great job, used it in 3 different tanks and frag tank
only lasted about a year, after aptasia was gone, he had a hard time competing for food against the other fish...
I am going to get another ASAP from DOTR

they do a great job at eating aptasia but also do a great job at eating corals. I work at total aquariums and customers bring them back for eating their corals, one of my buddies got one to eat his aptasia, it ate them then acquired a taste for all of his acans

I can move my acans frogspan and my zoes to my doughters tank. Softies I only have kenya trees and xenids and they are becoming a problem on their own so I do not worrry about them. The rest is all sps. do not thing filefish will eat them. I will want to get one that was behaving good in someones tank.

I have had great success with them eradicating aiptasia. They will sometimes nip at other stuff, particularly zoanthids, but I have never seen them show any interest in sps whatsoever beyond clinging onto the tip of a branch at night when sleeping--which is harmless. I term them an acceptable risk in most situations and they are pretty easy to catch if need be.

I got some peppermint shrimps and they seam to be eating the aiptasia. Almost all are gone except by where the clowns sleep in the colt coral. I think the clowns are keeping the shrimp away from there home.

Would you think Randy that I'm safe geting a new one from a wendor or would you recommend going with a specimen that is known to eat anem in someone elses tank?

Had about 40-60 Aiptasia in my 72 gal, than bought 4 peppermint shrimps- nothing changed. Bought Copperband butterfly fish and in 3 weeks no sign of aiptasia. :splitspin
