what do you cure or hold your live rock in? i am buying 50 or 100 lbs next week or so and i remember from years ago not even the 55 gal rubbermaid was spacious enough. i used a portable spa that was 300 gals but the liner ripped so i threw it out it was so flimpsy. anyone use anything that is sturdier? even the rubbermaid container bends out with all the water and rock. would be great to find like a 100 gal or more plastic vat or something... any sources? i don't want glass tanks because its too much a hassle to store and move when its moving time again.

indireef,

There are a couple of things you can do. Depending on the pieces you could use a large bucket or if it gets really large a rubbermaid stock tub is much thicker than usual. You can also use a regular rubbermaid and butress the sides to prevent bowing.

Well I cured 45lbs of rock in one of those 16 gallon rubbermaids from Homedepot without any problem. Or if you really want a lot of space, then get the 100 gallon rubbermaids. They have those at HD as well.

excellent idea. i kinda wanted something like you see in the asian fish markets, those stock tubs are huge and thickwalled! but nesting 2 100 gal tub should do the trick. i already have 4 acrylic rubbermaid tubs that don't bow at all but they are only 22.5 gallon each. they were $50 EACH but worth it because they are like having 4 20 gallon tanks that are nestable and they have windows that are not frosted that you can see right clear through, and lids too.

so you cured 45 lbs in a 16 gallon? cool i guess vigorous aeration through the powerhead "breather" and skimming reduce the amount of water i need to waste since i gotta change water often. -- how often did you change water on your rock until it was cycled enuf ?

oh wait i won't be able to get anything more than 50 gal locally. so i will just nest 2 50 gals or brace them as per your tips...
