Is there any way to get rid of worms living in live rock? I can't see them but have noticed the tunnels they are digging through the rock. They are also creating a ton of detritus and I'm tired of having to syphon it out ever week.

Thanks!

what kind of worms? most of us regard worms as a good thing.

I have no idea, I have never actually seen them. But more and more holes are appearing in the rock. I can actually take a turkey baster and blast water from one side of the rock out the other. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't for all the dirt.

If you want to get rid of the worms in a quick manner, a solution mix of Revive would get everything out. I dipped my Acan last week and ALL sorts of worms and pods came out dead. In many cases, worms and pods are good but sometimes, you never know....

I guess you don't like live rock.

Whatever it is they are probably doing a good job and eventually things will stabalize so you won'y know they are there. Lots of critters come and go as your tank matures. Enjoy them while thay last.

Scott, how big are the holes? With the excessive amounts of 'detritus' you're getting it almost sounds like a mantis shrimp burrowing in the rock. Have you seen any of your fish gone missing?

Marlon could you be talking about the orange worm with white mohawk on it? that would be the fireworms or are you talking about the greying worm like that retracts it body from its skin? they both eat left over food that your fish dont get to grab when you feed them although the fireworm when you accidentally touch them you might get stung a bit from their hair. they don't really kill anything from your tank but they will eat anything that's dead or dying and food that's just just laying there.

by the way the shrimps are either just hiding and will come out when the lights are out unless it's a cleaner shrimp(they are always out) or they're sensitive with changes in your tank like temp, salinity or any parameters which means they can be dead. i would say they're just hiding somewhere underneath the rocks.
