First of all, sorry waynotcars... its similar but a different question.

My question is how often you actually take your collection cup out and CLEAN the junk around the inside rim with all the build-up?

Keep in mind not just to empty the cup, actually clean it.

Also how many of you give your skimmer a vinegar bath? If so how often and for what reason?

Let me start first.

I clean my collection cup every month of month and a half.

Vinegar Bath
I haven't done it with my new skimmer yet but with the old one every time I see alot of coraline algae growth or other algae on the inside.

Reason :
Just to have a cleaner looking skimmer and to clean whatever was stuck inside the pump so it will work more efficiently

Thread kind of hi-jacked but no problem. Similar question. I should have said that everytime I empty it I clean it. I thought that went without saying. I couldn't imagine just emptying cup without washing it out. As for a vinegar bath, unnecessary if you're cleaning your cup every day.

every time i empty the cup it gets a tooth brush to the neck! lol yea this way its always game for cleaning. i usually have to empty it every other day, and my skimmate is drier then a martini, i get nice little chunks and an amazing smell :tongue1:

also ive been running this skimmer since june and no vinigar bath yet, my sump is bare so no need for a light, that way i dont get any algea growing down there.

oh WOW... I emtpy my collection cup maybe every 2 weeks.. and it's not DRY at all.. whats going on??

dry doesn't exactly mean dry it means there is way more waste in the cup than water. like its thick. and nasty like this

I clean the cup every 2-3 days roughly. I never ONLY empty it out without cleaning the cup.

I never vinegar bath the skimmer body. If detritus is building up in there, then I would siphon it out maybe once a year, and clean the pumps whenever needed.
