Does Codium help use up any excess nutrients.

Not according to Calfo and Fenner's book. Pretty nasty stuff. Most fish won't eat it either.

It's a slow grower with an interesting pattern. It will NOT take over a tank or attach to rocks. Fish don't eat it. It is not much use as far as nutrient uptake goes.

I've never been able to keep it alive in a tank. I used to have a cold water tank with local inverts, and would occasionally add a piece, anchored to a slipper limpet or mussel, but it would never survive for long.
