A bit dissapointed with Glasscages.com

Where can we go to get reasonably priced tanks and not have to wait months? I was looking at the 36x24x24 tank at glasscages, but have always been skeptical about them.

Stage, I am NOT trying to argue or put you down, please take this as the OPINION of someone that has dealt with the 'buying public' for quite a few years...

... I think that the above statement is key to the problem...You are correct, they are not making a special trip JUST FOR YOU...they have a truck that delivers a hundred (+/-) tanks each trip! Sure they could deliver yours for free, if they wanted, but why should the other 99 people have to pay, if you're not. You quoted the owner as saying "they can?t do anything because then everybody would complain". He's RIGHT! If you found out that someone else on that same shipment paid less for shipping, I think you would be upset! VERY UPSET!


EXACTLY...they have a shipping charge schedule, and everyone IS treated equal. If you call back next week, you should receive the same quote!

If they didn't offer their own shipping, would you tell UPS or FED EX, that you think that $20-25 would be fair? If you did, I think we all know what the answer would be.
Some of the members here know me and know that I can get some UNBELIEVABLE deals! I love a bargain as much as anyone, and I'm glad that you found another deal...but , I think, that your 'expectations' were not quite right in this situation.

Apparently, they are GREAT business people, that are doing so well, that they don't need to take every deal and every dollar, or any crap! Piss them off, and you're done! That's the TRUE dream of every business owner, whether they will admit it or not!

I understand you have your own opinion and experience with them, that is perfectly fine. I'm not here to pursued anyone, just to let others know of my experience. Like I stated earlier, their is no doubt in my mind that you were treated differently than most simply because you were spending quiet a bit more money then most. Unfortunately these days, very few businesses actually treat every customer the same regardless of how much they spend.
Yes, I understand you cant bargain with ups and fedex for shipping prices, but suggesting that is just plain silly. The point here is that for such a small tank I really don't think I should be paying such a large sum of money for shipping. No one would be mad if my little 17 gallon tank costs less to ship then someone's 40 gallon 36 incher. Fair is fair. That was the point I was trying to make here, that's all. I'm not the only one here that has had problems. Obviously this type of stuff has been going on for quiet some time. I'm just glad that it happened this way and that others have spoken out. At least now I will not be disappointed.

Definitely the farthest thing from great business people IMO. We can debate this till the cows come home. I don't dream to ever want to tell a customer any of those thoughts. Without going into any further discussion we can only agree to disagree about the philosophies you listed, it's not who I am as a person or a businessman.

Some of you may find it interesting. Especially the issue about shipping cost or lack of for me! Some things others have said seem true and some things were totally different for me in a good way.

jason you may like it , but im not going to lie to you i would be upset about the the bulkheads/low over flow / and silicon. they should stand behind what they sell specially them being a "aquarium building/ glass company ". if im going to put in time, money and effort into my project things better be right. im planning something custom now i will be going with miracles for that reason very clear communications, very direct and to the point. (even if it cost more i rather get for what i pay for)

i agree with you russ, im not a business owner but i do manage. i think thats the worst thing you can ever do. business = customer service meaning your providing a service . to me that means im going to do what ever it takes (within reason) to get you to purchase again or recomend me to others, i dont gain anything by pissing off a customer in fact i lose a chanse of making money, i bet you my life the person who picks up the phone is not the owner of gc, y? b/c he will do anything to get you a good deal/ a good experience to his benefit (be for money or personal business satisfaction) if he is truly a smart business owner.

As long as there are no bubbles in the seams...which I have seen in a few of their tanks.

I would not buy a tank from them, the stuff they built are inferior.. But they are cheap... for those that want to save some money.

i dealt with glass cages and mixed review but i wouldn't go so far by saying their standard quotes are almost the best in business. it's not doing them the favor of trying to cut shipping more etc. i think 36 bucks does suck when your trying to only buy that size of a tank and the tank alone is 125. no logic there. so one said thin glass? i had a starphire setup and was definitely not thin. it was 50 gallon and every other tank i've had was considerably "thin" or a little thicker than my old 75.

a few issues with their tanks/business: customer services - decent at most, sloppy silicone job but built like a tank, UGLY overflow and uses schedule 80 so not as readily available, and horrible organization for pickup spots took me close to 2 hours to get my tank in the cold.

just had 4 tanks delivered. they made the truck calling them last minute on monday with no extra charge.. silicon can be peeled off with a little hard work.. its not really a big deal.. the shipping was 50$.. the tanks showed up safe and sound and drilled holes were perfect. ready for the swap. they are great to deal with.. this is the 3rd time i've dealt with them.. NEVER a problem. i don't agree with shipping being that much on a tank.. but.. if that is what they charge.. then that is what they charge.. i guess if you don't like that fact.. you can always go back to posting for a tank that size to just "appear".. lol..

there were two trucks there this time chief.

and the glass is not cheap nor is it thin. lol.. i have 20 of their tanks in front of me everyday.. they all are clear.. they all hold water.. and if you don't think their work is that good.. come check out the 5 foot frag tank they made me at the swap..
