lolz its not that hard once you have the parts. for example i hooked mine up with that picture of red tube with the silver thing. but you need to go to a hardware of plumbing store and pick up a piece that sticks in the faucet so you can get the external ridges so you can screw in that metal piece to the faucet. if you get what im saying lolz. little confusing. well im out to go play texas hold em be back laters.

Thanks zahner and dean. I'll check with HD tomorrow.

What I got is a needle piercing valve, but it doesn't fit with the water line under my sink. I think tonyscoot might have the same problem.

The picture above is called a saddle valve. Any plumbing supply house (HD or Lowe's also) will have them. I have the Aquasafe unit myself.

This saddle valve is the easiest way to connect the RO/DI supply line. It is hidden out of the way and doesn't prevent you from using your sink while you're making water. It should fit around any size pipe you have under your sink up to about 1.5" diameter copper. I don't know of any water supply lines that are bigger than that under a sink.

All you have to do is unscrew one of the long silver screws and loosen the other silver screw. Put the valve around the cold water pipe and tighten the two silver screws. When you connect the red vinyl tubing to the saddle valve and make sure you have the blue/white quick connect ball valve on the end of the red tubing you just screw in the 'T' handle on the saddle valve. This will pierce the copper pipe. Then you unscrew the 'T' and voila, you have water to your RO/DI.

If you need a picture of this, just let me know. I can shoot a pic of mine.

thanks for that Masterswimmer. i actually got it to work with that thingy i was talking about previously. ok now for a stupid question. with rodi water and instant ocean salt. having a low bioload will you be algae free. im talking about that yucky brown reddish cyano algae and others that accompany the Wonderful tap water that we have here in new york. just been doing some thinking.

You're welcome Tony. Hey, that wonderful tap water in NYC is the best around. It comes from the Adirondacks in upstate NY. THAT'S why you have the best pizza!! :)

As far as cyano, brown algae, hair algae and all the other assorted algaes, those will be determined by your husbandry and tank conditions. Using RO/DI assures that you are starting out with pristine, quality water. After that there are a whole host of things that people can and do add to their tanks that causes problems.

Some frozen foods are notorious for adding PO4 to your tank. Any of the frozen foods that have that gel type of binding agent will add crap to your water. Most experts say to squeeze out that gel and toss it.

Your lighting cycle and bulb temps (kelvin) can effect your algae growth.

An ineffective skimmer will not remove DOC's (dissolved organic compounds) as well as a good skimmer.

So as you can see, there are different reasons we get algae blooms. At least now you know it won't be because of your water.

hey master well i no for sure there aint much junk in the water for sure. well now the water is pristine.. i would hope so after spending 150.00 on a freakin filter for my fishies. shows how much i love em. well yea i no about the frozen food and stuff. i only feed them a half cube once a week if there lucky. they get a variation from day to day with tropical flakes and nori.... so everyone is happy and bioload and po4 shouldnt really be a problem. other than that i usually do a water change once or twice a month. as of now i have done 2, 5 gallon water changes in 2 nites. i didnt want to do it all at once. i also scooped up some sand with the siphon thingy its pretty big. made sure i didnt go to low in the sandbed. trying to get rid of some sand.

does the silver thing look like this? this just screws onto the end of your faucet. on my faucets, I have to first unscrew the little piece that has the mesh screen in it.

Hi guys, where can I get an aerator like this silver one? My local HD doesn't carry it.
