wow i just joined this site and already i found a thread with some action.hey duke you are right about this fish.i had 1 3 years ago in my 125 and i felt it needed more room.very fast swimmer.most likely this fish wouldnt of lasted long in a 75.i would give it 3 months.i have had my tank set up over 10 years and have had expierenced many different species of fish and the achilles was the most challaging fish ive kept.sometimes advise falls on deaf ears but im sure other less expierenced reefers will learn to do some major research before they buy any creature for there tank so this thread wasnt a total waste.good luck on this fish cthoughts and although you may not like dukes advise he is correct...brian

Hey 125reefer, welcome to the site.

I understand the complexities of caring for an achilles tang. And I understand the space requirements it needs at the adult stage. I also understand, which is what other's fail to realize, that a 2-3" achilles tang will do well in a 75 gallon tank so long as it's provided the proper care. I never represented that the tang would stay in a 75 gallon long term, which is what dukie fails to understand. When the fish outgrows it, it'll be rehomed, like my hippo was.

thanks for the welcome.even for a small achilles it still needs plenty of open space for a swim.if you are close to me i would love to come see the fish and help you with caring for it while it is sick.be careful with any copper treatments though they do not do well with it.i would try using saturated garlic foods.i also wouldnt feed to much meaty foods until its gets the ick undr control.feel free to send me a meesage with any questions.also i tell alot of people this even with hardy fish i recommend always hand picking any fish.corals can be shipped as long as you are sure of the people packing it correctly.....brian

Brian, thank you for the offer. That was the lesson learned here, don't purchase a fish online without first inspecting it for diseases YOURSELF, regardless of what the seller tells you. I was told it was a 2-3 inch fish that was already quarantined and healthy. It turned out to be 3-4 inches and with ick. Anyhow, it is what it is.

Closetfishgeek, thanks for the offer, it's much appreciated.

With the amount of nice people that I've bumped into on here, I figured there would be some wanna-be-know-it-all jerkoffs i'd bump into on here eventually. Yeah I'm refering to you duke82 and scolyboy. You dumb asses turned a "fish help" thread into an argument over bullshit, which I was trying to avoid.

Bottom line is that I received a fish in the mail that had ick and I was looking to see if someone would help with a quarantine. Apparently that's too complex for some people to understand and possibly too dificult for the mods to keep under control. Thanks anyway MR.

WOW!! NICE MOUTH!! :dead:

perhaps i should not tell people i have a 3" achilles in a 55 gal."qt tank" for a few months now.(and just to prevent all the tang police query, i do have a 270-300 gal. system) i'm getting it to eat flakes, pellets, and nori at the moment. just like one of those counter-current swimming pool, he likes to swim in front of the mp10......lol. i have to learn how to post video.....it's pretty funny.

Maybe the mods are hoping this will die on it's own

I'm not sure who's winning this "I'm more immature than you" fight. It's difficult to put the same faces from the swap on people who behave like this. But that's how life is I guess. Here's a couple for you...
