how to catch a hippo tang?

Hey everyone was wondering if anyone had tricks on cathcing a baby 2 inch or so hippo tang? really need to get him out he has ick. I feed him garlic and it goes away and then it comes back only on him, wierd? thanks

good point but the only thing that sucks is i have no idea where he sleeps . Also have about 500 pounds of live rock so im sure you know where im comming from lol

Try using a trap first because Hippo Tangs lock themself between rocks like Triggers when threatend or scared.A cleaner wrasse or cleaner shrimp might work more effectively with regular feedings.

You can not stop feeding garlic as soon as ich stops, you got do another 7 to 14 days after he is spot free.

ive been trying to catch a wrasse now for 2 weeks.the PIA wont go near any trap i build.going to have to tell the person who wants it im sorry but he is smarter then me

You can barrow one from a member here or buy online.As i stated earlier you might be better off buying a cleaner shrimp and feed him regularly.Let his immune system do the job in clean water BTW.

hippos are highly prone to ich.
and most likely if u had fish for awhile
they are resistant to ich. leave the hippos and get cleaner shrimp and cleaner goby.

If you feel you must catch him you can build a trap from a plastic bottle. Cut the top off the top at the widest point, then cut off the part with the cap wide enough for the fish to fit. Invert this portion of the bottle into the lower portion of the bottle. Put some food (sea weed if he likes that) tied to a piece of rock in the bottle. Now sit back, and hope that he goes in.lol My betta like Duke's wrasse refused to go in.LOL I have caught many fish with this method. Just not the darn Betta.
Or you can get your fish use to eating out of a large fish net, and when the hippo goes in..... well you know the rest.

I would definitely make sure the environment is a nice clean stable environment, and feed good quality foods soaked in vitamins & garlic.
