Try using a trap first because Hippo Tangs lock themself between rocks like Triggers when threatend or scared.A cleaner wrasse or cleaner shrimp might work more effectively with regular feedings.

If you feel you must catch him you can build a trap from a plastic bottle. Cut the top off the top at the widest point, then cut off the part with the cap wide enough for the fish to fit. Invert this portion of the bottle into the lower portion of the bottle. Put some food (sea weed if he likes that) tied to a piece of rock in the bottle. Now sit back, and hope that he goes in.lol My betta like Duke's wrasse refused to go in.LOL I have caught many fish with this method.:) Just not the darn Betta.
Or you can get your fish use to eating out of a large fish net, and when the hippo goes in..... well you know the rest.;)

I would definitely make sure the environment is a nice clean stable environment, and feed good quality foods soaked in vitamins & garlic.;)
