Is it true that this pump is for continuous use meaning that it pumps air all the time?

The beauty of these is you simply leave it plugged in..with the hose part in your tank - all of the time. The minute your power turns off (while YOU are at work, or asleep , or wherever..) that is when it comes on - automatically! ...and will run for 28 hours.

I also especially like that when you have no power to recharge it, you can also pop batteries in there to keep it going even longer.

$59 to insure air for my fish when I can't get back home, or don't know I need to be there...sign me up Russ, I will send PP shortly & pick up at the Swap :)

I am interested in this pump but I'm confused about exactly how it works. On marine depot a reviewer says "Please be aware that this pump is for continuous use meaning that it pumps air all the time. The pump does not provide an option for activation in case of a power loss." In addition the description there also says "Continuous operation with or without power. Automatically switches to the backup rechargeable battery pack upon power loss if the air pump is on (requires the air pump to be on at all times)."

Unless this is a different model this doesn't seem to automatically turn on if/when power goes out. It must be on all the time and if power goes out it switches to battery power.

I am looking into options for power backup after a close friend of mine just lost coral, fish and a lot if time moving tank inhabitants after a power loss this past weekend.

So how would you use it, leave it plugged in and turned off and then when there is a power loss turn it on? I am interested I just want to make sure I understand how it works and if there are any other options.

Raj, you appear to be correct. We don't have this pump in stock at the moment, so I cannot visually inspect or evaluate that function. However, after reading more about it, it seems you are correct about the continuous flow of air.

IMO this pump would be a great source for backup when the weather forecast calls for a storm and/or possible power outages. At that time I would connect the pump and allow the airflow to run in the tank. If the electricity is interrupted the backup battery would intervene. It might also be a good way to ensure a more relaxed vacation, by having this run while away from home.

Hope this explanation helps.

Russ,
I am just wondering if you can plug it in and leave it off. When you get them in can you answer that? At least then I could plug it in anywhere and have it ready to go when I need it.
Thanks,
Raj

I understand your question. I believe you hit the nail on the head. I believe the pump runs continuous once plugged in. I will confirm that, but I'm almost 100% sure your initial 'read' on the pump is correct.

Is there a problem with it running constantly?

Not a problem with it running constantly. If the pump is set up in your tank 100% of the time it will run the airstone constantly. It will not shut off during a power outage and it will facilitate the oxygen exchange to keep everything alive using the included (enclosed) battery backup. If you decide to only set up the pump and airstone when there is a forecast of pending bad weather and possible electrical interruptions, then you will not have the airstone running constantly, only when you set it up and plan for the outages.

Hope that clears things up.
