New here, so I thought I'd say hi. I'll keep it short, since it's 1 a.m. and anything I say might not be in English at this point.

I'm married to your member, beerfish, and have been sort of helping with his 75 gallon reef tank for the past year or so. Now I've got an aquapod that we're getting ready to be a seahorse tank for me (Woohoo! Love seahorses!), so I figured it was time to join so I can pick all your brains too.

I'm actually about 29 pages into a book, reading up on it. I've got 'til the end of March when I get back from New Orleans to decide, so I've got some time to research.

I'll be a mess if I kill any, so I want to make sure I'm doing this properly and have ones that are easier to keep and right for my tank, as seahorses go. (I know they're not easy as a general matter.)

So far, the tank's got rock and a few zoas. I'm a pretty impatient person, but I'm restraining myself so I get this right. :)

Greetings Larissa. Welcome to MR.
I applaud you on actually reading a book. I'd say you fall into the category of the .5% crowd who've done more research than online.

Best of luck with your new SH system. BTW, impatience is NOT a good thing in this hobby, especially when setting up a SH tank. You should really let that tank mature for a good 6-8 weeks, minimum, before adding any ponies.

Again, good luck
swimmer

Oh, don't worry, it will. It's been about a week so far, maybe a little longer, and nothing at all is going into it (besides the aforementioned rocks & zoas) until after March 23. At that point, I'll try a blennie or something else innocuous to see how it's doing, and then after waiting to see how that goes, a pair of seahorses.

Like I said, I'm suppressing my nature for this. I cried a little yesterday when I found our hawkfish stiff as a board on the floor after it must've taken a dive from the 75 gallon tank. I'd really not be in good shape if I killed anything - especially a seahorse - from my own stupidity.

And yeah, while I love the 'net (obviously, since I'm here), I still appreciate the benefit of paper-based research. Besides, if I need a reference, a book is always at hand. Online, I have to fish through my bookmarks to find what I'd seen before.

Thanks for the welcomes, by the way, all of you. It's nice to see I'm not the only lunatic who's up so late.

Late........ :lol2:  :thrash: This is the best time of day to come up with any good  The late night crew just doesn't put up with any :fight2:

Good luck with your tanks cycle. If you've got any questions, you know where the late night crowd can be found ;)

Have a good night

welcome to mr. another late night lunatic here....lol.

i was chatting with your husband about the seahorses at dom's place a couple of weeks ago. dom is a good source for the ponies.

i've been keeping ponies for a few years now. hit me up for any tips, i'll try my best to guide you along.

1st tip....if you cried when the hawkfish went carpet surfing, don't start with a mated pair, they will keep mating and the fry are almost impossible to raise.....very sad to see them perish. keep two females instead.

I just looked up photos of those - the seahorses are beautiful, and the yellow watchmen are so cute! I really love gobies. They have such cute faces.
