Well yesterday when I got home from work there was a terrible smell coming from my tank, and as I got closer I noticed all my corals were bleached and all my inverts were dead except a fire shrimp. I found out my uv bulb was filled with water- I havent touched it since last year April when I installed it and was going to get around to cleaning the quartz sleeve this weekend. Released all kinds of things into the tank but amazingly all the fish survived, I am did a water change, currently running carbon and have a poly filter in there to remove any metals in the water. All my sps colonys!!! sigh!! Just needed to vent.

wow..sorry to hear about your tank..the good news is however, thank you for the warning that UV bulbs can cause this. you may just have helped a lot of newbies who dont change their bulbs. hope you get your tank back up and running!! good luck!!

Honestly I dont know, I havent touched it since last year april- it looks like it was corrasion but that could have been after the water got in. The only way I knew it was the uv I saw that the light was off on the unit and decided to check it.

I have a question how did the uv get filled with water, what happenned. I am sorry for your loss

Just change the carbon daily and do water changes. I had a flashlight fall into my sump three weeks ageo. It was only in there overnight but the batteries started coroding and they were covered in brown sludge. I ran alot of carbon and did water changes and 3 weeks later all my montis colored back up and some sps. Are you running carbon in a reactor?
