Nice fish store..

Hey guys,
looking for some suggestions on a good fish store out in queens, brooklyn or long island. i was going to wonderful world of fish but it went out of business a few months ago..

aquarium adventure is INSANELY expensive and some staff dont know JACK!
sometimes have some cool stuff but over last 6 months gone real downhill. I used to go all the time when lived in long island but now when i visit Long Island and I stop by its almost upsetting.

Out in LI there is Country Critters which I have heard good things about. If you are looking to travel a few minutes, stop by Greenwich Aquaria in CT. Beautiful shop and the staff is very knowledgeable.

Same here. They always been very expensive, but I've been buying freshwater plants when they had 50%off sale. Recently though, they gone downhill really bad and I would not be surprised if they close the store in the nearest future. I've been to their two stores in Chicago and their 100x better than the one in Carle Place which puzzles me even more. I wonder when NY metro area is going to get a store like Aquarium Adventure in IL or Big Al's store in FL.

I second Greenwich Aquaria--one of the nicest shops in the country. In the 5 boroughs, MR sponsor Manhattan Aquariums is has got to be at the top of any list.

+ 1 on Greenwich Aquaria in CT, I know you did not mention NJ, I would go see Brian at Ocean Gallery...great store.

There are quite a few stores that are decent. Some of us have preferences as to where to go for good pricing and quality. If you drive then you can be sure to vist at least all of them once. so you can pick for your self. I at times car pool it to LI. I would suggest one of our Manhattan reefs vendors and our for sale forum. But hey I like to take care of the people who take care of the site I love.

I will NEVER go to Aquarium Adventure again- have knowns since 3 months into the hobby that they are expensive- insanely so but they dont even stock enough of things like filter socks to always have them in stock. Went there for the last time the other night for a 1" bulkhead- they didnt have any- HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE 1" BULKHEADS IN STOCK? They act like theyre a great store yet their employees dont know their asses from their elbows and they dont stock enough plumbing for you to plumb a basic sump. The worst part is I vented to the kid that looked for the bulkhead and told him that thats inexcusable and his answer was"yeah the guys that deal with the plumbing do a horrible job in stocking that stuff"<-- am sorry last time I checked they were not Home Depot where they have 32 departments its a fish storethe answer should have been WE will make sure we order them now that I'm aware that were out. Shame on them. Also keep in mind I only go there if in a pinch and need something right then like I did the other night now not even going there for that.

Yet another reason why I deal with saltwatercritters If i was able to contact Russ and Jim before 7 pm, a deadline I missed by an hour I could have had everything I needed at my door the next morning AND for less than I had to spend locally.

AA is like walking into crazy town where everyone has drank the cool aid already. It pretty weak out here right now.
I heard about sea vision in queens but haven't heard from anyone who has been there.

Other than that there is always Fishtown. Lol

No seriouly why can't there be a nice place around here?

GC Reef and fish is a pretty cool store in Cenerach Li. Nice stock and ecent prices. Aqua Hut in Coram has the BEST prices on drygoods and the people are very knowledgable. I buy all my salt and such from them

I wouldnt put gc's prices next to country critters.... GC and aquahut r my 2 favorites! Both have excellent prices and good people!
